WEST ST. PAUL, MN; The Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network announces today that six state tournament quarterfinal games are on the broadcast slate over the course of three days, November 6, 7, and 8, featuring 12 teams from eight different Minnesota conferences, and a combined 115 state tournament appearances among them. The winners of these state quarterfinal match-ups will move on to the 2008 Minnesota State High School football tournament semifinals, which takes place on November 14 and 15.
Along with this week’s state quarterfinal games, the Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network will have extensive coverage of the state high school football tournament semifinals and Prep Bowl, including all 12 state semi-final games on November 14 and 15, and all six Prep Bowl match-ups on November 28 and 29.
All six of this week’s games can be heard on the Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network’s website, available online at www.mnsportsnetwork.com.

November 8 – Class 5A State Quarterfinal: St. Cloud Tech (9-1) vs. Wayzata (10-0): The St. Cloud Tech Tigers of the Central Lakes Conference will try to tame the undefeated Wayzata Trojans of the Classic Lake Conference Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in St. Cloud, as two teams battle in a Class 5A state quarterfinal game from St. Cloud State University. The Tigers advanced to the state tournament with a 39-21 victory over Buffalo in the Section 8AAAAA final, while Wayzata defeated Champlin Park 41-15 in the Section 5AAAAA championship game. The Tigers are making their fourth trip to state overall, and the second in three years, while the Trojans are making their eighth overall appearance in the state tournament, and their fourth in five years. While St. Cloud Tech has aspirations of making their first Prep Bowl appearance this year, Wayzata has been in the championship game twice, winning the 2005 Prep Bowl for their only state title. Joe Moore will have the play-by-play call for MSBN, with Marcus Dee providing color commentary.

The Wayzata Football Trojans defeated Champlin Park last night and are headed to St. Cloud to play the winner of St. Cloud Tech and Buffalow next Saturday, November 8th, 2008 at 6:00 pm. Advance ticket sales are happeing at the Wayzata Athletic Department Office on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Ticket prices for adults are $8.00 and student tickets are $5.00.
Please note that District ID’s, Student Passes, and Booster passes will not honored at the gates of the State playoffs.

WAYZATA, Minn. – In a commanding performance, the #2 ranked Wayzata Trojans (10-0) showcased their dominance with a resounding victory over the Champlin Park Rebels.
The game, played with tenacity and skill, saw Wayzata’s defense led by Kevin Potas and Toby Okeyumi stifling Rebel QB Ben Duncan and the Champlin Park offense.
First Quarter: Trojans Set the Tone
Champlin Park received the opening kickoff but faced an immediate setback when Kevin Potas recovered a fumble by Rebel quarterback Ben Duncan on the first play of the game.
Wayzata capitalized on the turnover, with Garrett Englehardt and Kevin Knight leading a strong offensive charge. Knight’s touchdown and David Stranghoener’s successful extra point put the Trojans ahead 7-0 with 9:34 left in the first quarter.
The Rebels struggled to gain momentum, with Duncan facing pressure from the Trojans’ defense, including a sack by Kevin Potas.
Wayzata’s solid defensive efforts and efficient offense continued to shape the first quarter, culminating in a 14-0 lead after another touchdown and extra point.
Second Quarter: Trojans Maintain Control
The second quarter saw the Wayzata Football team continue their dominance, with Garrett Englehardt’s explosive runs and a successful touchdown drive, bringing the score to 21-0.
Champlin Park faced challenges on both sides of the ball, with their attempts thwarted by the Trojans’ robust defense.
Wayzata’s attempt at a field goal was wide right, but their defense held strong, preventing Champlin Park from capitalizing on the missed opportunity.
The first half ended with Wayzata leading 21-0.
Third Quarter: Trojans Extend Lead
As the third quarter unfolded, Wayzata extended their lead with Chris Kroeten scoring another touchdown, pushing the score to 28-0.
Champlin Park struggled to gain traction, facing defensive pressure from the Wayzata Trojans.
Wayzata’s offensive prowess continued, and by the end of the third quarter, the Trojans were firmly in control with a 35-0 lead.
Fourth Quarter: Rebels Show Signs of Life
Champlin Park finally found the end zone in the fourth quarter, with a touchdown and successful two-point conversion, making the score 35-8.
However, Wayzata quickly responded with another touchdown, widening the gap to 41-8.
Champlin Park managed to score another touchdown and extra point, but it was too late to mount a comeback.
Wayzata secured a convincing 41-15 victory, maintaining their undefeated record.
The Trojans’ dominant performance showcased a balanced team effort with a formidable defense and an explosive offense, making them a force to be reckoned with as they advance in the postseason.
The Wayzata Trojans will host Champlin Park in the football section finals on Friday, October 31 at 7 p.m.
As residents will also be celebrating Halloween that evening, Wayzata Public Schools and the city of Plymouth want to make sure that the trick-or-treaters in the neighborhoods around Wayzata High School are provided a safe environment.
On Friday, traffic will be restricted to local residents only in the Plum Tree, Conor Meadows, and Wyndemere Farms neighborhoods.
The entrances to these neighborhoods will be monitored by Plymouth Police Department personnel from 5 until 8 p.m. On-street parking is restricted on Peony Lane and Schmidt Lake Road.
A large crowd is expected for the game and spectators are encouraged to car-pool. An auxiliary parking lot will be set up at Providence Academy with 400 parking spots available.
Providence Academy is located 2.5 miles east of Wayzata High School on 15100 Schmidt Lake Road. Shuttle buses will run between Providence Academy and Wayzata High School starting at 6 p.m.
The shuttles buses will run until 8 p.m. At the conclusion of the game the shuttle buses will depart from Wayzata High School to Providence Academy.
The Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network announces today that six section final games are on the broadcast slate for Friday, October 31, featuring teams from four different Minnesota conferences.
The winners of these section final match-ups will move on to the 2008 Minnesota State High School football tournament, which begins next Thursday, November 6, and runs through November 29.

#2 Champlin Park (9-1) vs. #1 Wayzata (9-0): The Section 5AAAAA final will match the champions of the Northwest Suburban conference with the champions of the Classic Lake Conference on Friday night, as the Champlin Park Rebels will head to Wayzata to face the undefeated Trojans.
So far this season, Wayzata has been able to excel both offensively and defensively, averaging nearly 45 points per game, while giving up less than nine.
Further, the Trojans have had two games this season in which they have scored 50+ point victories, defeating Robbinsdale Armstrong 63-7 and Burnsville 70-0.
Only once this season did Wayzata not defeat a team by double digits, and that was Edina; the Trojans defeated the Hornets, 16-10.
They received a bye in the first round of section 5AAAAA play before beating Robbinsdale Cooper 42-7 in the section semifinal.
Champlin Park, on the other hand, also has been able to put together an impressive array of victories, posting wins of 30 or more points six different times this season.
Among them was a 70-0 win of their own, over Park Center in the first round of section tournament play.
They advanced to the section final with a 31-point win over Osseo in the section semifinal, 47-16, in a game where the Rebels sprinted out to a 40-0 lead by the third quarter to cruise to the victory.
These two teams played in the Section 5AAAA final last season as well, with Wayzata edging Champlin Park 23-21 to advance to the state tournament.
Mike Jungblut and Joe Funk will have the call of the game for MSBN from Wayzata.
Ryan Macgregor kicked an 83 yard punt during the game.
The Wayzata Trojans (9-0) faced off against the Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks (4-6) in the 2008 Section 5A Football Tournament.
Cooper earned the right to challenge Wayzata by defeating Maple Grove earlier in the week.
During the game, Wayzata’s Ryan Macgregor showcased an outstanding performance with an 83-yard punt that strategically pinned Cooper on the 1-inch yard line.
Wayzata is now gearing up for the next challenge against Champlin Park in the upcoming AAAAA Sectional Action next Friday night.
First Quarter Highlights:
Trojan QB John Ries orchestrated a number of outstanding plays plays, including a 20-yard scamper by Garrett Englehardt into Hawk territory.
Chris Kroeten scored a touchdown, setting the tone for the game.
David Stranghoener’s extra point made it 7-0 in favor of Wayzata.
In the second quarter, Chris Kroeten and Garrett Englehardt continued their impressive performance, adding more touchdowns to secure a commanding 21-0 lead for Wayzata Football.
Cooper encountered offensive challenges, as Kevin Potas and Tobi Okeyumi made impactful plays, contributing to Wayzata’s defensive efforts.
Wayzata’s offense, guided by Ries, maintained dominance, leading to another touchdown by Englehardt.
The first half concluded with Wayzata in a commanding 28-0 lead.
Third Quarter Action: Wayzata Maintains Dominance
In the third quarter, Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks attempted a comeback, starting their drive at the 25-yard line.
Despite some resistance from the Trojans, Cooper’s DJ Hebert showcased impressive plays, including a long pass to Lakeem Johnson.
Hebert eventually ran a keeper to score a touchdown, narrowing the lead to 28-7 with 5:51 remaining in the quarter.
Wayzata, starting at their 20-yard line, responded with a solid offensive performance.
Quarterback John Ries handed off to Chris Kroeten, who gained 10 yards and secured a Trojan first down.
Kroeten continued to make significant gains, supported by a well-executed screen pass to Garrett Englehardt, resulting in an easy touchdown.
Wayzata extended their lead to 35-7 with 4:05 left in the third quarter.
Despite Cooper’s efforts, the Trojans’ defense proved resilient. Kevin Potas sacked Hebert, leading to a turnover on downs.
Wayzata took over at the 41-yard line, and a subsequent play involved a handoff to Chris Lindsey.
However, a failed pass attempt prompted the Trojan punt team to take the field.
In the fourth quarter, Wayzata continued to assert dominance.
Matt Tarpley’s bootleg run and a well-executed pass to Cecil Doe contributed to another touchdown, bringing the score to 42-7 with 10:25 remaining in the game.
Robbinsdale Cooper had moments of success, with Hebert completing a pass to Anton Bedeaux for a significant gain.
However, Wayzata’s defense, led by players like Paul Hoffer, prevented further progress.
The game concluded with Wayzata Football maintaining control and securing the victory.

The Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network announced today that the Section 5AAAAA Semifinal: #5 Robbinsdale Cooper vs. #1 Wayzata is on the broadcast slate for Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 3:00pm.
According to a press release from MSBN’s Steve Pesek, there are a number of games that can be heard on the Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network’s website this Saturday, including Wayzata Football.
Here is a preview of the match up between Wayzata and Cooper according to MSBN.
In this Section 5AAAAA Semifinal, the #5 seeded Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks(4-5) will head to Plymouth to take on the #1 seeded Wayzata Trojans (8-0). Robbinsdale Cooper and Wayzata did not meet in the regular season.
The Hawks defeated Maple Grove in their quarterfinal match-up, 22-14,while Wayzata had a first round bye. Game time is 3:30 pm, with MSBN’sPregame Show beginning at 3:00.
