NorthCoast featured in City Pages

NorthCoast, the Wayzata Restaurant in the Boat Works building on Wayzata Bay and overlooking Lake Minnetonka, was recently featured in City Pages. Rachel Hutton visited recently and began the article like this:

“NorthCoast restaurant is in a suburban office park on Lake Minnetonka, not far from Cargill headquarters. It’s decorated like a hotel lobby—smart yet unassuming—and boasts a clientele of boaters, businessmen, and ladies who lunch. In the summer months, its roof deck is so popular that the restaurant sometimes serves 700 guests in a night. The best-selling entree is the walleye.”

Dan: What is the Wayzata Eatery Like?

Geeoff: It’s casual fine dining.

Dan: What is the best dish you have?

Geeoff: The Pork Tenderloin, with a grape tomato tapenade and asparagus.

Dan: It’s a wine bar too?

Geeoff: It’s a wine bar too.

Dan: What does that mean?

Geeoff: We have all kinds of wine. No hard liquor.

Dan: How many wines do you think you have?

Geeoff: Over 100.

Dan: I saw you guys opened the Alaska Eatery as well. What’s going on with that?

Geeoff: That’s the old Shelley’s Wood Roast. The Alaska Eatery is offers good seafood and good steaks.

Dan: What is the Wayzata Eatery’s busiest times?

Geeoff: Both lunch and dinner are busy, so it is hard for me to say. Brunch is available on Saturdays and Sundays.

Dan: What time does brunch start and end?

Geeoff: 11:00-3:30.

Dan: What is offered at brunch?

Geeoff: A lot of sandwiches, a lot of breakfast foods, stuffed french toast, eggs benedict, in season fruit. It runs anywhere from $10-15 per person.

Dan: Do you enjoy working at the Wayzata Eatery?

Geeoff: I do.

Dan: How long have you been there?

Geeoff: Since we opened, about a year ago.

Dan: Thanks for your time Geeoff.

Is there a sushi bar / restaurant in Wayzata?

Thanks for the email. There is not a Sushi Bar that I am aware of in Wayzata. However, there are two Sushi Restaurants that are close. One is the Oragami West located at 12401 Wayzata Blvd, Minnetonka, MN 55305. According to reviews, it gets 3.5 out of 5 stars. 952-746-3393‎ or http://www.origamirestaurant.com/. The other one that is close is Sushi of Tokyo located at 3900 Vinewood Ln NMinneapolis, MN 55441. You can reach them at 763-551-5926‎. 1 City Search reviewer rated it 5 stars.

Drove Past the Alaska Eatery Today

I drove past the Alaska Eatery today, the sister restaurant to the Wayzata Eatery owned and operated by Tahar. According to City Search, it gets 4.5 stars out of 5–a pretty impressive mark. It is located in the old Shelly’s Woodroast location on 394 / Wayzata Boulevard in St. Louis Park. Apparently there is impressive Alaskan decor, the service is better than average, and the food is quite good. The pros listed on the City Search site are: food, service, better than any seafood options in the service, and lively service. Cons include: Parking is in the back, not on the level of top seafood places in Minnesota, you see the back of the building from the street. Elisha and I are looking forward to trying this new place with a Wayzata connection!
Wayzata Eatery

The Star Tribune is reporting on the recent success of Taher, Inc., with it’s three concepts: The Wayzata Eatery, the Alaskan Eatery, and now the Nordeast Eatery. Has any one eaten at the Wayzata Eatery? What is the food like? How does it stack up to other Wayzata Restaurants? I did see a picture of the inside of it a number of months back in another Star Tribune article–seemed like it was very similar to the restaurant it replaced–Louie’s Habit.
