In the summer, it’s the “ping” of an aluminum bat hitting a baseball and dogs barking in a seasonal dog park. This time of year, it’s the sound of a hockey stick slapping a hockey puck and the sound of skates on ice. We’re talking about the sounds of Wayzata’s Klapprich Field.

The Public Works Department is working diligently to get the ice skating rinks ready for residents use at Klapprich Park. The expected opening date is December 17 (weather permitting). Thank you for your patience in getting the rinks open and usable as weather has a large factor in the quality of the ice. Have a wonderful and safe winter!

Andrew Mullin sent me a message via Facebook today: “Let the flooding begin. The city began to flood Klapprich and also plans on flooding Margaret Circle this year. Great news!”

With the warm temperatures we have been seeing the last week and a half or so, we knew it was bound to happen. The Klapprich Park Warming house has been closed, according to Wayzata Community Television and the City of Wayzata’s website.
Crews will not be resurfacing the skating rink and ice any more either, as it has become too warm and the ice surface is deteriorating. On average, the City claims that the rink is used about 60 days a year. For the winter of 2008-2009, there were 53 days in which the ice was usable.
