City of Wayzata Announces Open House for Luce Line / Dakota Rail Trail Connection

WAYZATA, Minn. — The City of Wayzata has secured funding from Hennepin County to initiate a planning effort aimed at establishing a potential bike and pedestrian trail connection through downtown Wayzata.

This connection will link the Dakota Rail and Luce Line Trails, contributing to the enhancement of the local trail network.

The planning effort is part of the Hennepin County Community Works Corridor Planning grants, with Wayzata being one of the ten communities selected for this initiative in 2008.

In a collaborative partnership, the City of Wayzata, Hennepin County, and Three Rivers Park District have joined forces to undertake this significant planning endeavor.

SRF Consulting Group, Inc. has been appointed to lead the effort and engage the community in the planning process.

To gather input and insights from the community, an Open House has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 14, 2008, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wayzata City Hall.

Interested parties are encouraged to attend and provide comments and concerns regarding the project.

Wayzata Fall Leaf Pickup Set for November 10th at 7:00 AM

WAYZATA, Minn. — The City of Wayzata, MN, is gearing up for its annual fall curbside leaf pickup scheduled for November 10th at 7:00 am. Wayzata residents are encouraged to participate in this free service provided by the city.

To ensure a smooth pickup process, residents are reminded to bag their leaves in containers no larger than 65 gallons and place them curbside by 7:00 am on November 10th. This initiative aims to assist Wayzata homeowners in managing the abundance of fallen leaves that typically accumulate during the fall season.

As the autumn foliage transforms, residents are encouraged to partake in this community tradition of fall clean-up. It’s an opportunity for Wayzata neighbors to come together and maintain the beauty of the surroundings during this seasonal transition.
Barry Avenue South Closure for Water and Sewer Work

October 5th, 2008

WAYZATA, Minn. — Barry Avenue South is set to temporarily close for essential water and sewer connections related to the newly constructed building at 328 Barry Ave S, as announced by the City of Wayzata.

On Monday, Oct 6th, at 7 am, Vosson Plumbing will undertake the installation of water and sewer services for the new structure.

Due to the proximity of the existing watermain and sanitary sewer, this work necessitates the closure of Barry Ave S.

The closure will be implemented at Rice and Barry, permitting local traffic only for access to the parking ramp, and at Barry and Lake, allowing local traffic only for access to businesses just north of Lake Street.

Full closure of Barry Ave S. will occur at 328 Barry Ave S.

The comprehensive work, including asphalt replacement, is anticipated to conclude by the afternoon of Wednesday, October 8th, at which point the road will be reopened for regular use.

To The Editor,

I am writing to the Citizens of Wayzata to ask their support of my election to the Wayzata City Council in November.

For the many Wayzata residents I know personally my interest to serve its citizens will come as no surprise. For those of you who are not familiar with me, I have lived in Wayzata for over 11 years and have been an active civic and community volunteer. My wife Kristyn and I are the proud parents of two Wayzata public elementary school kids, Walker and Paige and I am the part owner of a successful small business.

Wayzata is a great community with a proud history and I plan on being an active listener to the citizens of Wayzata. I will work to protect the vitality of our neighborhoods and balance the needs our Wayzata businesses that includes making certain that Wayzata remains a healthy vibrant community. One of our greatest opportunities for the future is to enhance the city wide traffic plan making certain we foster a pedestrian and bike friendly environment.

Railroad Crossing at Lake and Arlington Closed for Repairs and Quiet Zone Preparation

WAYZATA, MN – Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) has commenced repair work on the railroad crossing situated at the intersection of Lake Street and Arlington Circle. The scheduled maintenance is expected to span over the next couple of days.

Residents of Wayzata can anticipate the completion of the crossing repairs within the next couple of days. Following the conclusion of these essential repairs, a designated quiet zone will be established, providing relief to residents from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night. This measure aims to enhance the quality of sleep for Wayzata residents in all directions.

Reflecting on recent disturbances, a Wayzata resident shared an experience of a train passing through around 3:30 a.m. a few nights ago. The implementation of the quiet zone is poised to bring an end to such disruptions, offering a more tranquil nighttime environment for the community.

During the closure period, the City of Wayzata suggests utilizing the following detour route: take Highway 101 to Wayzata Boulevard, and proceed to Superior Boulevard. This detour is recommended to ease traffic flow and minimize inconvenience for motorists during the railroad crossing repairs.

As the repair work progresses, residents are encouraged to stay informed about any updates or changes in the schedule.
City of Wayzata begins Quite Zone work for Rail Road

This information was and is on the City of Wayzata’s website yesterday afternoon.

“The Arlington railroad crossing, at the east end of Lake Street, will be closing beginning Thursday, September 18, 2008. The crossing will be closed to allow BNSF to make repairs to the crossing and to begin construction on the City’s Quiet Zone median improvements. The crossing will be closed through Friday, September 19, 2008. The suggested detour will use 101 to Wayzata Blvd to Superior Blvd. Thank you for your cooperation. I think Wayzata residents who live near the Quite Zone will sleep better at night upon completion for a long time to come!
Wayzata’s train will not sound horn

The Wayzata Bay Window, the Official Newsletter of the City of Wayzata is reporting that the City of Wayzata is nearing the final stages of implementing a Quiet Zone for trains traveling through town. The City has requested that the railroad discontinue blowing the train horns between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. for the comfort of it residents. “The trains will continue to blow their horns during the day, for safety reasons,” said City Engineer Mike Kelly. With more people in town during the day, the City Council felt that visitors and residents should be reminded to look and listen for trains. That’s great news if you are a resident of Wayzata and live near the train tracks.

There has been some input from citizens that they would have preferred to have the Quite Zone be 9 p.m. in case families have young children. I would have like to have seen it be quite regardless of the time as is the case on Crosby Road in Minnetonka. Still, it is grand improvement over the 11:00 at night whistle blowing and 6 in the moring wake up call from the train rumbling by.

The article goes on to say that the City of Wayzata has been working on the Quite Zone for over two years. Construction on a safe crossing at Arlington will occur, a 21 day waiting period will happen, and then Wayzata residents can sleep in peace.

Ken Wilcox runs unopposed for Mayor in the City of Wayzata, MN

Ken Wilcox, a four year City Council Member, is running unopposed for the Mayor of Wayzata, MN, according to an affidavit of candidacy released by Sandy Langdon, Communications Director at the City of Wayzata. Additionally, three people are running for two council seats: Mary Bader, Andrew Mullin, and Tom Tanner. We will try to get an interview with all of these candidates for you in the coming weeks.

Dakota Regional Trail Update

September 9th, 2008

The Three Rivers Park District has the following information on their website about the Dakota Regional Trail:

“The Dakota Rail Regional Trail is a 13.5-mile regional multi-use trail that will extend from Wayzata to St. Bonifacius following the old railroad line. The trail is closed until it is fully completed in fall 2008. Individuals using closed trails may be subject to citation. This is a non-motorized, non-horse trail.

8/15/08 Update – The public’s patience is appreciated during construction of the Dakota Rail Regional Trail. As of Friday, August 15, pedestrian and bicycle use is permitted on the portion of the trail between St. Bonifacius and County Road 19 in the Navarre portion of Orono. Users are reminded to exercise caution and to be respectful of contractors working in the corridor. Other portions of the trail remain closed at this time.

As construction progresses, please check back for updates regarding permitted use on other sections. The Dakota Rail Regional Trail follows the route of the former Dakota railroad corridor, going through St. Bonifacius, Minnetrista, Mound, Spring Park, Minnetonka Beach, Orono and Wayzata. Completion is expected later this year. Motorized vehicles and horses are not permitted on the trail.”
