Ken Sorensen was officially sworn in to the Wayzata City Council on Tuesday, marking the start of his service in the city’s leadership.

In a statement following his swearing-in, Sorensen expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve Wayzata. “First of all, thank you for the confidence, for the call, Mayor, a couple of weeks ago when we had this discussion,” Sorensen said. “Thank you, council members, thank you staff, I know there were others that supported me for this appointment. I believe it’s an honor and a privilege to serve.”

Sorensen, who has lived in Wayzata for eight years, reflected on the positive reception his family has received from the community and his desire to give back.

He also highlighted his experience in the development and construction sectors, as well as his time serving on the Planning Commission for over three years, which he believes will guide him in making informed and transparent decisions.

“I’m excited, I’ve got a lot to learn in a short period of time,” Sorensen said. “My intent is to spend the next several months during this campaign to listen and learn and know what is on the mind of our citizens.”

Sorensen will serve on the council until the end of the year, and will win election as a Council member as he is running unopposed, along with Alex Plechash.
