About Dan Gustafson’s Wayzata.com

Inspiration

Having spent my formative years growing up in the corn fields of Essex, Iowa, I was impressed at an early age with the importance and impact of the local newspaper to the community. During the time I lived there, the Essex Independent was a broadsheet newspaper with one piece of paper folded in half to form four pages.

Essex Independent newspaper, circa 1993.

Within the weekly paper was all the news that was fit to print about the town and residents: events, businesses, births, deaths, marriages, sports and activities from the local schools, city hall happenings, police reports, and social information on who visited whom.

My inspiration and intent in publishing Wayzata.com is to mirror my old hometown newspaper with pictures and stories about the people, places and things that happen in my new hometown–Wayzata, MN.

Whether you view the site as an electronic town crier, a community bulletin board, a digital historic record, or something else–I am pleased you have taken your time to view this site which is published for the benefit and betterment of the community.  While the tools have changed, and the pace is more rapid, I believe the end result for the reader today is much the same as it was for me those many years ago.

If I can be of any assistance to you in communicating with the Wayzata community, or publishing news, information, photographs, or video, please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Sincerely,

Dan Gustafson
