Wayzata Police Chief Marc Schultz submitted a letter of resignation on June 26th, 2024, Wayzata.com has learned.

Schultz was hired as deputy Police Chief in 2019, under then Chief Mike Risvold and was promoted after Risvold retired in March of 2021.
In a heartfelt letter addressed to City Manager Jeff Dahl, Chief Schultz expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the communities of Wayzata and Long Lake.
“My time serving these communities has been incredibly rewarding,” Schultz stated. “Together, we have navigated many challenges and achieved numerous milestones in enhancing the safety and well-being of our community.”
During his tenure, Chief Schultz implemented various initiatives aimed at fostering trust and cooperation between the police department and residents.
His leadership has been instrumental in strengthening community relations and ensuring public safety.
As the city begins the transition process, Chief Schultz has pledged his full support to ensure a smooth handover. “I am committed to assisting in any way necessary to support the interim leadership,” he affirmed.
City Mananger Jeff Dahl issued this statement, “Earlier this summer, Wayzata Police Chief notified the City of his pending retirement effective November 29, 2024. Chief Schultz has served the public for more than 26 years—starting as Police Officer in Roseville in 1998. Upon his retirement, Chief Schultz will have served the Wayzata community for more than 5 years.
