Undeterred by cool temperatures and intermittent heavy rain, dedicated volunteers in Wayzata came together for the second annual “Dig-It Day” to plant the City of Wayzata public gardens.
The event, organized by co-chairs Deanne Straka and Jan Himan, saw approximately 100 volunteers gathering at Wayzata Public Works early on a rainy Saturday morning.
Before venturing out into the elements for the planting, the volunteers were treated to coffee and donuts.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, the community spirit prevailed.
This volunteer initiative has garnered statewide recognition from the League of Minnesota Cities.
Mayor Ken Willcox proudly announced that the City of Wayzata is under consideration for an award, acknowledging its pioneering efforts in this program.
At around 9:00 AM, the volunteers dispersed to various locations across the community to carry out the planting.
The intermittent heavy rain ensured that the newly planted flowers received a natural watering as they were carefully placed into the soil.
