WAYZATA BOYS HOCKEY NOTEBOOK 1/17/2009: Trojans on 10-Game Winning Streak

Record: 11-3-1

Streaking: After starting the season 1-3-1, the Trojans have won 10 straight games. Over that stretch they have outscored their opponents 48-12.

Stingy Defense: During their 10-game winning streak, the Trojans have shutout four opponents and held three others to just one goal. Senior goaltender Ty Simcoe has allowed only 17 goals in 11 games.

Hats Off To Thee: Junior center Danny Walsh recorded a hat trick in the Trojans’ 10-0 victory over Shakopee on Saturday, Jan. 17. Walsh added three assists in the game and currently has nine goals four assists on the season.

Winning The Close Ones: In games decided by one goal, the Trojans are 4-1 this season. That includes wins over Roseville, Breck, Moorhead, and Eastivew. Their lone loss in a one-goal game was to Bloomington Jefferson back on Dec. 11.

Balanced Scoring: The Trojans have been extremely balanced this season as seven players have between 10 and 16 points. Seniors Matt Straate (seven goals, nine assists), Kevin Blackley (six goals, 10 assists), and Billy Soule (five goals, 11 assists) lead the team in scoring with 16 points apiece.

Looking Ahead: The Trojans will look to build on their 10-game winning streak when they host Burnsville at the Plymouth Ice Arena at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Two days later they will open the conference season at home against Edina on Thursday, Jan. 22.
