Maple Grove’s Libby Bakker (200 IM and 100 backstroke) and Kaya Flaherty (50 freestyle and 100 butterfly) each won two events, as did Lucy Troyak (200 freestyle and 500 freestyle) of Wayzata. Monday, October 14: Girls Tennis and Adapted Soccer Take the Stage
The week kicks off with Adapted Soccer, where Wayzata’s squad will travel to take on White Bear Lake Area in what promises to be a spirited matchup. This game is part of a season that’s been filled with energy and determination for the team. Later, the spotlight shifts to Girls Tennis, as the section individual tournament begins at Inner City Tennis. Wayzata’s top tennis players will look to advance through the competition in hopes of representing their school at the state level.
Tuesday, October 15: Section Soccer and Volleyball Showdowns
Tuesday brings one of the most exciting days of the week, with both the Boys and Girls Soccer teams competing in section games on their home turf. The boys take on Hopkins, while the girls face Rogers—both matchups will be held at Wayzata High School. With a spot in the section finals on the line, the teams will rely on their home crowd for support in these critical matchups. The Trojans have put together strong campaigns this season, and both teams are aiming to keep their playoff hopes alive with victories.
Also on Tuesday, Wayzata’s Girls Volleyball team hosts Minnetonka in what’s sure to be a fierce rivalry game. With the playoffs on the horizon, each game becomes more important for the Trojans. A victory against Anoka would be a strong step toward improving their playoff positioning. Expect a hard-fought game as Wayzata aims to maintain their focus and finish the regular season strong.
Thursday, October 17 & Friday, October 18: Soccer Section Finals Loom
If the Trojans’ soccer teams are victorious in Tuesday’s section games, both the Boys and Girls Soccer teams will be competing in the Section Finals later in the week. Dates and opponents are still to be determined, but the anticipation is already building. Both teams have shown tremendous talent and teamwork throughout the season, and making it to the section finals would bring them one step closer to a state tournament appearance.
Saturday, October 19: Swimming Stars Take the Stage
The week concludes with the Girls Swim and Dive team competing in the State True Team Meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Known for producing some of the fastest swimmers in the state, Wayzata’s swim team has its sights set on strong finishes in individual and relay events. The True Team format emphasizes overall team depth, so every swimmer’s performance will count as they look to bring home top honors.

“The Wayzata girls swimming and diving team defeated Eden Prairie Thursday by a final score of 105-70. Sophomore Brooke Huldeen and junior Brynn McNanley tied for first in the 50-yard freestyle while sophomore Ashley Mouyenga won diving. Junior Evie Holmes won the 100-yard butterfly, McNanley also won the 100-yard freestyle, senior Lucy Troyak won the 500-yard freestyle, and senior Liya Dai won the 100-yard backstroke. Congratulations to all girls who participated on Thursday, Friday and Saturday for winning Sections with a final score of 659 points (Mounds View was second with 376.5 points and Armstrong was third with 328 points). The Trojans not only won and set a new Sections record in 10 of the 12 events: all three relays, Madison Preiss in the 200 IM and the 100 breast, Colleen Donlin in the 50 and 100, Brooke Fontaine in diving, Lexi Schaaf in the 100 fly and Carly Quast in the 100 back. Special congrats to the Medley Relay (made up of Quast, Preiss, Schaaf and Donlin), Brooke Fontaine in diving, and the 400 Free Relay (made up of Whiting, Quast, Lingen and Donlin) for setting new school records. The results and Best Times/Score sheet have been updated.”
