Monday, October 14: Girls Tennis and Adapted Soccer Take the Stage
The week kicks off with Adapted Soccer, where Wayzata’s squad will travel to take on White Bear Lake Area in what promises to be a spirited matchup. This game is part of a season that’s been filled with energy and determination for the team. Later, the spotlight shifts to Girls Tennis, as the section individual tournament begins at Inner City Tennis. Wayzata’s top tennis players will look to advance through the competition in hopes of representing their school at the state level.
Tuesday, October 15: Section Soccer and Volleyball Showdowns
Tuesday brings one of the most exciting days of the week, with both the Boys and Girls Soccer teams competing in section games on their home turf. The boys take on Hopkins, while the girls face Rogers—both matchups will be held at Wayzata High School. With a spot in the section finals on the line, the teams will rely on their home crowd for support in these critical matchups. The Trojans have put together strong campaigns this season, and both teams are aiming to keep their playoff hopes alive with victories.
Also on Tuesday, Wayzata’s Girls Volleyball team hosts Minnetonka in what’s sure to be a fierce rivalry game. The volleyball team has been building momentum all season, and a win against Minnetonka would boost their standing as they prepare for sections. Meanwhile, the Girls Tennis Section Individuals Tournament continues, with top players competing to move forward in their brackets.
Wednesday, October 16: Trojans Football Head to Anoka
Midweek, Wayzata Football heads to Anoka for an away game as they look to secure a key win in the final stretch of the season. With the playoffs on the horizon, each game becomes more important for the Trojans. A victory against Anoka would be a strong step toward improving their playoff positioning. Expect a hard-fought game as Wayzata aims to maintain their focus and finish the regular season strong.
Thursday, October 17 & Friday, October 18: Soccer Section Finals Loom
If the Trojans’ soccer teams are victorious in Tuesday’s section games, both the Boys and Girls Soccer teams will be competing in the Section Finals later in the week. Dates and opponents are still to be determined, but the anticipation is already building. Both teams have shown tremendous talent and teamwork throughout the season, and making it to the section finals would bring them one step closer to a state tournament appearance.
Saturday, October 19: Swimming Stars Take the Stage
The week concludes with the Girls Swim and Dive team competing in the State True Team Meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Known for producing some of the fastest swimmers in the state, Wayzata’s swim team has its sights set on strong finishes in individual and relay events. The True Team format emphasizes overall team depth, so every swimmer’s performance will count as they look to bring home top honors.

Friday Night Lights, anyone? The Wayzata Football team (2-3) travels to Prior Lake (1-4) for what promises to be an intense game. Our Girls Volleyball team is back in action on Friday, this time facing St. Michael-Albertville. Two matches in a week can be tough, but this group is resilient, and we’re all rooting for them!

2024 Wayzata Boys Soccer team. Image courtesy Wayzata Athletic Department. The Wayzata High School boys soccer team, currently ranked No. 7, is gearing up for a pivotal game against No. 9 Buffalo (8-1-1) tonight following a 2-1 victory over St. Cloud Apollo.
The Trojans have enjoyed recent success, positioning themselves well in the highly competitive Lake Conference, which features four of the state’s top 10 teams. Wayzata’s ranking reflects the strength of their conference, which includes Minnetonka (No. 3), Edina (No. 6), and Buffalo, who is tied for No. 9 with Two Rivers.
“We’ve been playing well, but we’re still working on a couple of formations,” states Head Coach Dominic Duenas. “With about five games left in the season, we’re preparing for sections, experimenting with both one-forward and two-forward setups.”
Senior captain Aiden Judickas has been a key player for Wayzata this season, using his speed, strength, and athleticism to make an impact as a forward. Judickas has consistently performed well, contributing both leadership and skill on the field.
Goalkeeper Brett Rexine has been solid in net for Wayzata this season, making key saves and providing reliable defense. His consistent performances have been crucial to the team’s success.
Junior captain Jeremy Cordeiro has been outstanding for Wayzata this season, showcasing his versatility by stepping into various positions whenever needed. His leadership on and off the field has been invaluable, as he continues to guide the team through a strong campaign.
Two of Wayzata’s losses this season came against top-ranked teams, Minnetonka and Minneapolis Washburn. “We hate to lose to the Skippers,” said head coach Dominic Duenas, acknowledging the tough rivalry with Minnetonka.
Despite having just two returning starters from last year’s team, Wayzata has pieced together a strong season with a 6-2-1 record. “Our team is a puzzle, but the guys are piecing it together well,” the representative added.
Wayzata will face a tough challenge tomorrow night as they take on Buffalo (8-1-1), which is also enjoying one of its best seasons it has had in recent years. The Trojans hope to continue building momentum as they prepare for the upcoming section tournament.

Top-seeded Wayzata reigned as the only remaining undefeated team in Class AAA following a 2-0 victory over No. 2 Maple Grove on Friday, Nov. 3 at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis. The Trojans (20-0-2) struck early and didn’t let up in capturing the big-school state championship for the second consecutive season and fifth title overall. It is Wayzata’s third state championship since 2017.
In the battle of last undefeated teams in the big-school field, Wayzata needed just 2 minutes and 12 seconds into the game to grab the lead it wouldn’t lose. Junior forward Aiden Judickas had the honors by scoring on a header off a corner kick by senior midfielder Charlie Piller. Those two combined again midway through the first half on a similar scoring play to double the Trojans’ advantage.
It was Wayzata’s 16th shutout of the season.
“I am extremely proud of this group,” Wayzata Boys Soccer coach Dominic Duenas said. “They were locked in from Day One. We’ve been focusing on defending from the very first day of training. I couldn’t be more proud of how we defended all season long.”
Maple Grove (19-1-1) was the runner-up for the second time in program history. The first came in 1998 in a loss to Apple Valley in the Class AA championship game. The Crimson had not given up more than one goal in a game this season until the championship game.
“They came out and punched us in the mouths,” said Maple Grove co-head coach Gregg Leininger. “We fought back, but couldn’t get one to go in.”
