From MNDOT:
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Removal of the Luce Line Trail bridge over Highway 12 at the east end of Long Lake and Orono is postponed due to impending inclement weather. The removal is rescheduled from 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 1 until 5 a.m. Thursday, April 2. During the work, Wayzata Boulevard will be closed and detoured. Traffic will follow a signed detour using Old Long Lake Boulevard.
The old bicycle/pedestrian bridge will be replaced with a refurbished historic bridge that was removed during construction of the new Highway 12 alignment between Wayzata Boulevard and Hennepin County Road 6.
While new abutments are built for the bridge, the Luce Line Trail will be closed for approximately seven weeks. Once the abutments are completed, a second closure of Wayzata Boulevard will be required to raise and place the refurbished structure.
Work on the new five-mile alignment of Highway 12 began in summer 2003 and will be completed in summer 2009.
Further information about the Highway 12 project is available at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy12/index.html.

The new by-pass on Highway 12 at the west end of town is causing quite a stir for Long Lake and Orono businesses. My wife recently tried to go get a pizza from Papa Murphy’s in Long Lake. She drove out there last week and had trouble identifying which exit to use to get to downtown Long Lake. She’s not the only one who is having trouble.
According to a KARE 11 report, many other drivers are having trouble identifying which exit goes where. Check it out at: Long Lake merchants upset about new Highway 12 bypass impactAs always, stay tuned to your Wayzata Boulevard and Highway 12 traffic leader, Wayzata.com.Sponsored Text Ad:

From MNDOT:
With winter nipping at our heels, work continues unabated on the new Highway 12 project in Long Lake and Orono. And motorists awaiting the long-anticipated opening of the new Highway 12 bypass will not have much longer to wait.
Although the new highway alignment is expected to open up around Thanksgiving, additional work will remain on the east side of the project at Wayzata Boulevard and on the west side at Hennepin County Road 6. The Luce Line bridge also remains to be completed.
Retaining walls are complete but the retaining wall fieldstone will be painted next spring. Concrete paving has begun and bituminous paving will start early next week. Grading will continue. All bridges are decked and overlays complete but additional work remains for bridges including: barrier, sidewalk, painting and railing and bridge deck planing.

This is a very serious crash that just occurred on Wayzata Boulevard / Highway 12 & 394. If you have any information as to what occurred, please post it in the comments section that is located right underneath this posting. KARE 11 is reporting that one of the motorists was fixing her hair right before the crash.
This incident happened right in front of Village Chevrolet on the eastbound side. The Crash reconstruction crew was on scene taking photographs and marking up the pavement. A barrier on the south side of the freeway had been destroyed. 1 car and 2 suv’s were involved, –the two suv’s had rolled over. No victims were on scene when I was there, and questions as to condition of the victims directed towards State Troopers and MNDOT crew were not answered.

This is a very cool video that takes the viewer from Delano, MN to St. Paul along Highway 12/394/94. It shows all the construction at the Long Lake and Wayzata border. I read a sign there the other day that said the construction was scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2009–can that be right? Seems like it has been under construction for over a year already! I cannot wait until they have the Long Lake bypass done! Anyway, check out Delano, Independence, Maple Plain, Long Lake, Wayzata, Minnetonka, Golden Valley, St. Louis Park, Minneapolis and St. Paul along this heavily traveled road. It’s time lapse, so it takes just a couple of minutes as compared to the hour it would take in light traffic.
