This is a very cool video that takes the viewer from Delano, MN to St. Paul along Highway 12/394/94. It shows all the construction at the Long Lake and Wayzata border. I read a sign there the other day that said the construction was scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2009–can that be right? Seems like it has been under construction for over a year already! I cannot wait until they have the Long Lake bypass done! Anyway, check out Delano, Independence, Maple Plain, Long Lake, Wayzata, Minnetonka, Golden Valley, St. Louis Park, Minneapolis and St. Paul along this heavily traveled road. It’s time lapse, so it takes just a couple of minutes as compared to the hour it would take in light traffic.

From MNDOT: “ROSEVILLE, Minn. — The ramp from Highway 12 to westbound County Road 15 will close at 5 a.m., Monday, Sept. 8, as crews continue work on a pavement rehabilitation project. The ramp will remain closed for approximately three days.Mn/DOT reminds motorists to slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones. Traffic was at a an absolute crawl last night with the continuing improvements on Highway 12 and 394 -
Here is that crazy merge right on the border of Wayzata and Minnetonka as you exit 494 from either direction. When will this never ending construction be done? The City of Wayzata’s web site indicates: “It is anticipated that all work will be done and ramps reopened on September 19, 2008.” Seems like I read all road construction on Highway 12 would be complete by September 1st, so I begs the question, what gives. At least it isn’t down to one lane in either direction like it was for an extended period of time. I haven’t been any further west than Wayzata, so maybe someone could give us an update on what is happening out there.

You have to take some time to look at minnetonkafelix’s website, minnetonkascenes.blogspot.com. Felix has some of the most beautiful photos in the area. His blog is definately worth checking out on a regular basis. This is one of his most recent posts, and it brings up a good point.“I have rarely seen such a dangerous merging point. You twist your head to the left and crane your neck to look back and measure your chances of surviving the merge onto 394 from the ramp leaving Wayzata Boulevard. It is a life and death 45 degree entry with about 10 yards before you are in 60 mph highway traffic. But ignorance is bliss, you cannot see the traffic behind because your view is obscured by a large construction sign. You just cross your fingers and punch it. ” — minnetonkafelixIt seems very many of us have had to deal with this particular merging spot. I believe he is talking about the westbound on-ramp from Carlson Parkway and 494. I have been on both sides of this merging transaction–west bound on Highway 12 as someone just pushes their car to the left as I am in the right lane and trying not to get clocked by another vehicle and merging onto 12.Who came up with this idea to merge like this anyway? I don’t want to die on 394, at least not today.
