Wayzata Girls Basketball Off to 9-3 Start to the Season (video)

The Trojans defeated Minnetonka 63-49 last night in the Lake Conference opener. Maren Day had 14 points for Wayzata, Allie Berns had 10, Sophie Hawkinson had 9, Annika Kieser had 9, and Mallory McBeth also had 9 points.

For Minnetonka, Jazmin Daing had 14 points, and Ari Peterson had 10.

Wayzata hosts Buffalo Friday night at 7pm at Wayzata High School.


“The Wayzata girls basketball team is off to an 9-3 start to the season and all three of the Trojans losses have come by single digits. Wayzata has recently earned big wins over East Ridge, White Bear Lake, and Roseville. The Trojans are led by North Dakota State University commit Sophie Hawkinson, who’s averaging 18.5 points per game, but Katie Kelzenberg, Allie Berns, Annika Kieser, and Maren Day are all averaging over eight points per game. With their depth, Wayzata has run the floor a lot this year, averaging 71 points per game as a team. The Trojans are hoping come March that they’ll advance to the class AAAA state tournament for the first time since 2010.” via CCX Media.
