Your Wayzata Trojans girls soccer team defeated the Edina Hornets 3-1 at US Bank Stadium today to win the Class AAA State Championship.

It was a showdown that had been brewing all season. After falling to Edina by a single goal in August, the Wayzata Trojans set their sights on a rematch, ideally on a grander stage. On Friday, Nov. 1, that stage became U.S. Bank Stadium, where the Class AAA state championship hung in the balance. The Trojans rose to the occasion, securing a resounding 3-1 victory over their rivals and earning their eighth state championship—and their first since 2012.

Playing with purpose and resolve, No. 1 Wayzata (19-1-1) took the field with a fierce drive to avenge last year’s runner-up finish, which ended with Edina holding the trophy. It was clear the Trojans weren’t content to let history repeat itself. With quick, early goals and relentless pressure on both sides of the ball, they left little room for doubt.

Sophomore midfielder Alex Veillieux struck first, netting a goal in the third minute that set the tone for the Trojans’ offensive onslaught with an assist from Carolyn Voss. Just nine minutes later, senior forward Tenley Senden extended the lead with a dazzling play that kept Edina on their heels, with an assist from senior Sophie Hawkinson. Senden wasn’t done yet—she added her second goal in the 28th minute, giving Wayzata a commanding 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

Edina (13-2-5) fought back with the resilience expected of a top-ranked team, finally breaking through Wayzata’s defense in the 55th minute on a goal by senior Alejandra Adair. But Wayzata’s defensive unit held strong, refusing to let the Hornets close the gap any further.

As the final whistle blew, the Trojans celebrated a victory that was about more than just a trophy—it was a testament to their hard work, their championship pedigree, and the memories of past near-misses. Coach [Coach’s Name] praised his team’s relentless effort, especially in light of their previous setbacks.

For the Trojans and their fans, Friday’s game will be remembered not only as a triumphant victory over a formidable rival but as a defining moment in the program’s storied history. And as they hoisted the championship trophy high above the turf at U.S. Bank Stadium, the Wayzata Trojans proved they were once again champions.
