The long-anticipated demolition of the original Wells Fargo office building at 900 Wayzata Blvd E. is officially underway, marking a significant shift in the transformation of this high-profile site. After three years of planning and coordination with the City of Wayzata, Mithun Enterprises has begun clearing the old structure to make way for the next phase of development.
The demolition comes after the successful completion of a newer, smaller Wells Fargo bank branch, which has been operational for a couple of months on the north side of the site. Additionally, a newly constructed office building on the east side of the property is now fully functional, representing the culmination of Phase 1 in this multi-year project.

“We are excited to begin construction on a new gateway to downtown
Wayzata,” said Matt Mithun of Mithun Enterprises in an official release. “We look forward to a successful project with limited impacts during construction on the neighborhood.”
Timeline of the Project:
- Phase 1 (June 2023 – August 2024): The first phase included the demolition of the bank’s old drive-through and the construction of the new, smaller Wells Fargo branch, along with the office building located on the east side of the site. Both facilities have been operational for several months.
- Phase 2 (August 2024 – October 2024): The current phase involves the demolition of the original Wells Fargo office building. Following this, the development team will focus on site preparation, including drainage improvements and foundation work for the upcoming residential buildings.
- Phase 3 (Fall 2024 – Fall 2025): This phase will see the construction of residential units, including an apartment building and townhomes. Mithun Enterprises anticipates the project will be completed, with landscaping and final touches, by Winter 2025/Spring 2026.

Once complete, the site will serve as a modern gateway to downtown Wayzata, offering a blend of residential, office, and banking spaces, along with enhanced pedestrian pathways and green spaces. The community can expect ongoing updates as the development progresses, with efforts in place to minimize construction-related disruptions.
