As the leaves begin to turn and the air cools, the Wayzata Symphony Orchestra (WSO) is set to welcome the community into its 2024-25 concert season with an enchanting performance titled “Viaggio in Italy.” This delightful celebration of Italian music will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Hopkins High School. Best of all, it’s a free event—no tickets required!
The concert will feature the remarkable talents of guest artist Cassie Pilgrim, Principal Oboist of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Pilgrim, a native of Chamblee, Georgia, has been captivating audiences since joining the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra in 2019. A graduate of both the Curtis Institute of Music and the Oberlin Conservatory, she has a rich musical background, including her work to establish a Philadelphia branch of Music for Food, a charity that fights hunger through music.
The program promises to be a feast for the senses, beginning with Verdi’s powerful Overture to Luisa Miller, followed by Besozzi’s exquisite Oboe Concerto in G Major, featuring Pilgrim’s lyrical artistry. To conclude the afternoon, the WSO will perform Respighi’s beloved Fountains of Rome, a piece that has become a favorite among concertgoers.
Music Director Hannah Schendel leads the talented ensemble of musicians who make up the WSO, which has become a cherished part of the Wayzata community. Celebrating its 16th season, the orchestra brings together passionate musicians dedicated to engaging and enlightening audiences through high-quality performances.
After the concert, attendees are invited to a reception where they can meet the musicians and share their love for music in a relaxed setting. Donations are graciously accepted to help support future performances and community initiatives.
