Wayzata Public Schools has initiated a process to adjust attendance areas in an effort to balance student enrollment across its elementary and middle schools.
According to an email from Gillian Haven, the district has partnered with TeamWorks International to facilitate the process, which could result in some students attending different schools starting in the 2025-26 school year.

Attendance areas, or boundaries, determine which elementary and middle schools students attend within the Wayzata Public School District.
While the adjustment may affect which school some students are assigned to, it will not impact the boundaries between different school districts.
According to the district, the changes are necessary due to overcrowding in some schools, while others have available capacity.
This disparity in enrollment has been driven by increasing student numbers and growing demand for specialized services.
District officials emphasized the need to address these capacity challenges to ensure all students have an optimal learning environment.
“We are dedicated to being fiscally responsible and ensuring that every district building is used as efficiently and effectively as possible for the benefit of our community,” the district stated in the email.
The process began over the summer, with the Wayzata School Board approving a Guiding Change Document on July 8, 2024.
The document outlines the goals and parameters for the attendance area adjustments. Currently, a team of district staff and TeamWorks International is working on designing possible attendance area concepts.
An Input Team made up of parents, caregivers, and staff from each school will provide feedback, and the broader school community will have the opportunity to share input online.
The final attendance area adjustment model is expected to be approved by the Wayzata School Board by December 2024.
Detailed information about the implementation plan will follow, and support will be offered to families affected by the changes.
The new attendance areas are scheduled to take effect in September 2025.
District officials noted that the revised attendance areas are intended to remain in place for three to five years, depending on enrollment growth.
They are also evaluating future facility needs to determine whether additional schools may be necessary.
Community members are encouraged to stay informed and participate in the process as the district works to create a solution that serves the entire school community.
