Wayzata Teacher Taryn Adams Receives MNSHAPE Young Professional Award

Taryn Adams, a Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) teacher in Wayzata Public Schools, has been honored with the Minnesota Society of Health and Physical Educators’ (MNSHAPE) Young Professional Award.

This prestigious award recognizes outstanding potential in teaching, leadership, and service in the fields of Adapted Physical Education, Health, Physical Education, Dance, and Recreation for professionals within their first five years of teaching.

Adams is in her fourth year of teaching, with three of those years spent in the Wayzata district. She provides physical education services for students with disabilities at four elementary schools and also coaches adapted soccer and floor hockey for the Wayzata/Minnetonka Lakers at Wayzata High School.

“I am so honored to be recognized with this award!” Adams said. “My mission is to create equal opportunities for students of all abilities to be physically active and engage within their community. I love teaching DAPE and working in the Wayzata district.”

The award ceremony will take place during the MNSHAPE State Conference at Lakeville South High School on Nov. 4-5, where Adams will be celebrated in front of her family, friends, and colleagues. Award recipients will also receive a free membership to MNSHAPE.
