The Wayzata Fishing Team, based in School District 284 (Wayzata), is actively seeking new members to join its ranks.
Established in the summer of 2017, the Wayzata Fishing Team aims to expand its membership and recruit individuals who share a passion for fishing.
Comprised of youth anglers entering grades 8 through 12 and residing in the Wayzata School District (ISD 284), the team offers opportunities for engagement in fishing promotion and participation.
Activities for team members include recreational and competitive fishing events such as tournaments, fundraisers, practices, and seminars and the opportunity to receive an athletic letter from the Wayzata High School.
The team focuses on catching bass, much like the Bassmaster pros.
Anglers are able to fish at their own level of competition which ranges from local team derbies to State level competition against other high school teams on the largest and best lakes in the state.
One group has qualified three times for the high school bass fishing National Championships.
Additionally, the team is dedicated to giving back to the local community and sponsors through volunteer work at various events and service projects.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Wayzata Fishing Team emphasizes fostering a love for the sport among its members.
Ken Pucel, a key figure in the team’s leadership, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming year, stating, “The best part about being on the team is pursuing the passion of fishing during the summer, learning new skills and making new friends that have similar interests. . . also giving back to the community.”
The Wayzata Fishing Team will be hosting a New Member Informational Meeting on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, at 7:00 PM.
The meeting will take place at the Wayzata Sailing School located at the Mike Plant Community Boathouse, 456 Arlington Circle, Wayzata, MN 55391.
