Edina Senior Ryan Flaherty scored three goals to carry the Hornets (15-2-1) over the Wayzata Boys Hockey (14-1-2) team in Lake Conference play at the Plymouth Ice Center Tuesday night.
At the end of the 1st period, the Trojans and the Hornets were deadlocked at 0-0, with Wayzata leading 18-2 in shots on goal.
In the second period, Edina took advantage on a power play for interference as Flaherty scored at 10:52 with an assist from John Halverson and Sam Peckham.
A minute later Flaherty added another goal, this time at even strength with an assist from Caleb Pittsley.
Wayzata would answer at 15:06 as Jake Mattson scored on a Trojan power play with assists from Hawke Huff and Cade De St. Hubert.
Edina added two additional goals from Freddie Schneider and Caleb Pittsley to round out the scoring in the game.
Wayzata goalie Evan Turek made 13 saves on 17 shots on goal, and Edina’s Joe Bertram made 31 saves on 32 shots on goal.
On Wednesday, the Trojans will embark on a hockey-filled weekend.
Wayzata will travel to Warroad where they’ll face off against Noah Urness, Jake Halvorson and the Roseau Rams (14-3) in Roseau on Thursday evening at 7 pm.
The action continues on Saturday as Wayzata participates in the Hockey Day Minnesota outdoor tournament against Moorhead.
