Wayzata Sports Update

From the Sports Notebook:


Wayzata Boys Basketball

The Trojans (11-0) remain the #1 ranked team in the State.

The team defeated East Ridge on Monday by a score of 74-64.

Wyatt McBeth led Wayzata with 16 points, Christian Wiggins had 13, Evan Johnson had 12, Brayden Sandmann had 12, Jackson McAndrew had 8, Daniel Grubesic had 7, and Isaac Olmstead had 3.

Wayzata also beat #3 ranked Lakeville North (6-4) 94-76 last week as Jackson McAndrew scored 28 versus Jack Robison‘s 26 points.

Wayzata begins conference play this week and hosts Buffalo (8-2) this Friday at 7pm at the Wayzata Field House.


Wayzata Girls Basketball

The #7 ranked Wayzata Girls Basketball team (9-2) was scheduled to play Maranatha Christian Academy last Friday, but the game was cancelled.

The Trojans had some solid wins over the Holiday break against Minot and Lakeville North at the Granite City Classic.

Katie Kelzenberg, Kate Amelotte, and Sophie Hawkinson led Wayzata in those games.

Lake Conference play starts tonight as the Trojans travel to #1 ranked Minnetonka (10-0) tonight to take on Aaliyah Crump, Lanelle Wright, and Tori McKinney who all average double digits in scoring per game.


Wayzata Boys Hockey

The #2 ranked Trojans (12-0-2) travel to St. Michael Albertville (3-9) on Thursday night.

Wayzata defeated Grand Rapids 6-2 last Saturday at Yanmar Arena in Grand Rapids.

Wayzata goalie Evan Turek saved 16 of 18 shots on goal during the contest.

Luke Miller scored 4 goals against Grand Rapids.

Luke Miller scored 4 goals for Wayzata in the contest; 1 in the first period, 2 in the second period and a 4th in the third period.

Brooks Gengler scored against Grand Rapids.

Brooks Gengler added a goal in the second, assisted by George Ericson.

Eli Molde scored a power play goal in the first period, assisted by Rhys Wallin and Brittan Alstead.

Wayzata Girls Hockey

Shyla Sanders has 9 goals on the season for the Wayzata Girls Hockey team.

The Wayzata Girls Hockey (6-9-1) team hosts Minnetonka (14-2) tonight at the PIC.

Watch for Skipper team leaders like Lauren Mack who has 14 goals on the season, as well as Lindzi Afar with 11, and Kendra Distad has 9.

The Trojans beat North Wright County 4-2 last Saturday.

Morgan Kennedy, Shyla Sanders, Davy Mokelke, and Julie Ostapeic each had a goal in the contest.

Goalie Ella Podiak stopped 27 of 29 shots on goal.
