Wayzata Yacht Club Presents Freedom on the Water: Sailing with the Blind

WAYZATA, MN – The Wayzata Yacht Club extends a warm invitation to the public for a free presentation on the unique and liberating experience of Sailing With The Blind.

This enlightening event, titled “Freedom on the Water – Sailing with the Blind/” is set to take place on Thursday, January 25, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm CST.

The WYC is located on Lake Minnetonka and Wayzata Bay at 1100 Eastman Lane in Wayzata.

Hosted by the Wayzata Yacht Club Membership Committee, the presentation offers an insightful exploration of sailing for the blind and visually impaired, enriching the landscape of recreational opportunities in Minnesota.

A distinguished panel, comprising members of Twin Cities Blind Sailing (TCBS) and their sighted guides, will delve into the nuances of this emerging recreational endeavor.

Sailors, both racers and cruisers, will share their firsthand experiences, providing a window into the world of sailboat racing for those who are blind or visually impaired.

Highlights include a solo cruise on Lake Harriet in 2023, offering a compelling narrative of the capabilities and resilience of visually impaired sailors.

Gain valuable insights into the role of sighted guides and support personnel in enhancing opportunities for Minnesotans who are blind or visually impaired to engage in sailing.

Learn how the Wayzata Sailing School (WSS) and Minneapolis Sailing Center (MSC) have generously contributed time, space, personnel, and boats to support this endeavor.

The event, part of the “Wanderlust – A series of sailing adventures from around the world by people you know here at home,” is open to the public and free of charge.

Due to limited seating, interested attendees are encouraged to register.

Doors open at 6:30 pm, providing an opportunity for light refreshments and socializing.

The presentation will commence at 7:00 pm, followed by a chance to meet the sailors and guides, fostering a sense of community and shared enthusiasm for sailing.
