Wayzata Education Fund Celebrates 20 Years with Gala Fundraiser for Innovative School Projects

In a milestone celebration of its 20th anniversary, the Wayzata Education Fund (WEF) is reimagining its annual fundraiser by swapping the traditional golf event for an elegant gala.

The event, set to take place at the Wayzata Country Club on Saturday, February 3, 2024, promises an evening of socializing, fun-filled fundraising games, and a short program led by Wayzata Football Head Coach Lambert Brown. (Image courtesy X.com)

Founded in 2004, WEF is an all-volunteer-run 501(c)(3) organization committed to funding grants for innovative curricular projects envisioned by teachers and staff within the Wayzata School District. These projects, although outside the district budget, align with the district’s core purpose of preparing students to thrive today and excel tomorrow.

The decision to transition from the golf event to a gala was driven by a desire to make the annual fundraiser more inclusive and engaging for the broader community. The golf event had a limited capacity and primarily attracted golf enthusiasts. In contrast, the gala at Wayzata Country Club can accommodate twice as many attendees, opening its doors to anyone in the community who wants to have a great time supporting Wayzata Public Schools.

“Now more than ever, our teachers and students need our support,” stated Dawn Zouber, spokesperson and Co-Chair of the Gala for WEF. “Last year, we received over $170,000 worth of grant requests, a record high in our history. However, we were only able to fund $48,000 worth of grants. Our goal for this year’s gala is to raise $100,000, allowing us to make an even more significant impact in our schools.”

The Gala, with a cash bar and fun fundraising games, invites attendees to contribute to the cause. The event will follow a fun cocktail attire theme and is open to individuals aged 21 and older. Free parking will be available onsite, with valet options at an additional cost.

As WEF anticipates a sellout with 200 guests, all proceeds from the Gala will directly fund grants requested by teachers and staff of Wayzata Public Schools. By supporting the Gala, attendees will play a vital role in helping the school community move from “Excellent to Exceptional” education.

For those interested in securing a spot at this exclusive event, purchasing tickets is encouraged at the earliest convenience. It’s not just a celebration; it’s a commitment to advancing education in Wayzata.
