Wayzata Girls Soccer Beats Maple Grove in State Semifinals

In the state Class AAA semifinals on Tuesday morning, the Wayzata girls’ soccer team swiftly secured a 5-1 victory over Maple Grove by netting three goals within the first 14 minutes of the match. Tenley Senden opened the scoring with her first of two goals just 5 minutes and 9 seconds into the game, and she later contributed an assist for Sarah Hyde’s second-half goal. Grace Estby and Davy Mokelke also found the back of the net for the Trojans, while Anya Gerlach managed to score Maple Grove’s sole goal in the late stages of the first half.

With a record of 20-1-0, the Trojans are set to compete against top-seeded Edina for the state title on Friday at 10:15 am at U.S. Bank Stadium. Meanwhile, the Crimson, with a record of 9-7-4, will face Andover in the battle for third place on Wednesday morning.
