Seniors savor last home game as Trojans win all facets of contest
After a scoreless first quarter, your Wayzata Trojans (3-4) were able to start hitting on all cylinders as they beat the Blaine Bengels (3-4) in a lopsided contest Friday evening at the Wayzata Football stadium.
Junior running back Carter Olson scored a 3 yard rushing touchdown to put Wayzata on the board 6-0 early in the 2nd quarter.
Junior quarterback Cole Heilbrun connected with senior wide receiver Ford Griffith on pass completions twice for touchdowns in the 2nd quarter–the first a 25 yard gain and the second for a 28 yard gain as time expired to make it 21-7 at the half.
Wayzata scored on the first possession of the 3rd quarter as Deyon Loveless finished the drive with an 11 yard scamper to the left to make it Trojans 28, Blaine 7.
Wayzata added insurance touchdowns with two successful drives in the 4th quarter. The first was a pitch and catch from Heilbrun to speedy wide receiver Tyler Milkes for 43 yards. The 2nd touchdown drive was capped with another 11 yard Deyon Loveless touchdown to make it Trojans 42, Blaine 7, final.
Defensively, the Trojans pitched a near shutout, with the only score by Blaine a questionable call as Bengal receiver Matthew Plankers never seemed to securely possess the ball after QB Frank Daniels threw it to him. Regardless, the defensive unit stopped Blaine all night long.
Cole Heilbrun completed 15 passes on 21 attempts for 228 yards and 3 touchdown completions.
Deyon Loveless rushed 16 times for 149 yards for a 9.3 yard average and 2 touchdowns. Carter Olson carries 13 times for 51 yards for a 3.9 yard average and 1 touchdown.
Ford Griffith caught 4 passes for 102 yards and 1 touchdown. Tyler Milkes caught 7 passes for 85 yards and 1 touchdown. Ford Griffith caught 4 passes for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jack Simon caught 1 pass for 7 yards.
Chase Ullom had 11 tackles, Andrew Westermeyer had 4 tackles, Noah Rychlick had 4 tackles, Keyuandre Watkins had 3 tackles, Adam Cherne had 3 tackles, and Cameron Cortright & Noah Regan had 2 tackles.
The Trojans move to 3-4 on the season with a chance to play at Farmington (1-6) next week.
