
In a tragic incident earlier today, Police Officer William Mathews, a dedicated member of the Wayzata Police Department, lost his life in the line of duty.
The 19-year veteran was struck and killed by a vehicle on Route 12, between Route 101 and Shoreline Drive, at approximately 12:30 pm.
Officer Mathews had been actively engaged in removing debris from the roadway when a vehicle collided with him.
The Wayzata Police Department is mourning the loss of Officer Mathews, who served this and other communities with unwavering dedication for nearly two decades.
He is survived by his wife and 7-year-old son.
