A dedication ceremony for the Trapper’s Cabin was held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Shaver Park. Irene Stemmer described the occasion on her Facebook page: “IT IS DONE! The log cabin is safely settled in Shaver Park, just where it should be. We celebrated at a little dedication of John Field’s “Trapper’s Cabin” that he grew up with that stood on the Andrews/Field property for the past 100+ years. Our thanks to the Fields, and Nelsons, Heubishes, Babcocks and Westlands who nurtured and cared for the little cabin all those years. It is not easy to move a historic building from its original site but when we need to, it can be done. Yesterday we tried to thank all those who helped and made it possible-Our Benefactors, Presbyterian Homes (John Mehrkens); A & P Construction; Dave Anderson, Decorator’s Service, Bill Smude, the fellows who reroofed and Larry Stubbs who lifted that old cabin up ever so gentley and finally set it down on a cement slab for its new home in Shaver Park–THANK YOU THANK YOU. Then there was the wonderful support of David and Nancy Field, who read all those journals dating back to Mary Andrews (David’s great grandmother) ever searching for the history of the family and the cabin. A new friendship that will forever be precious to me. All the support I had from the , Merrily Borg Babcock, who never let me give up.”
