Changes in Downtown Wayzata: Reflecting on North Coast’s Closure

Businesses come and go, but North Coast was a place that the docks of Wayzata will not feel the same without.

Today was an unusually quiet day in Downtown Wayzata, and it was hard to ignore the stark lack of activity outside North Coast.

North Coast, which used to buzz with life, now appears shuttered with closed windows and drawn blinds. It’s a far cry from the lively, sun-soaked place where just a few months ago, I enjoyed a leisurely lunch with my parents. We discussed the privilege of living in a town where we could savor the simple joy of outdoor dining on a beautiful day, with the tranquil lake at our feet.

Although the North Coast sign remains in place, its once-inviting patio has been transformed into a barren expanse, cordoned off from the world. A strip of well-worn tile runs down the middle of this concrete space, marking the spot where servers used to deliver mouthwatering plates of bruschetta. Scattered patches of sand now symbolize the empty spaces where tables once sat.

In a world where businesses often come and go, North Coast held a unique and cherished spot on the Wayzata waterfront. Its absence leaves a noticeable void in the Wayzata restaurant scene, reminding us of the special character it brought to the community.
