Original Pancake House Set to Depart Wayzata Bay Center, Paving the Way for Redevelopment

The Original Pancake House has formally agreed to vacate the Wayzata Bay Center by October 1. Ken and Karen Savik, the owners, were the final long-term tenants within the Bay Center, a notable landmark named after Wayzata Bay on Lake Minnetonka.

The agreement between Presbyterian Homes and the Original Pancake House was officially concluded on April 8, 2011.

This agreement marks a pivotal step toward advancing plans for the redevelopment of the Wayzata Bay Center, encompassing senior housing, retail spaces, and a hotel.

As part of the transition, the Pancake House will remain operational until August 15, 2011.

Meanwhile, the Saviks are actively searching for a new location to relocate their business.

John Mehrkens, Vice President of Development at Presbyterian Homes, expressed earlier this year his anticipation to commence the demolition of the site during the upcoming summer.

The departure of the Original Pancake House contributes to the realization of the broader vision for the Bay Center’s transformation into a multifaceted development.

The planned redevelopment aims to bring senior housing, retail establishments, and a hotel to the heart of Wayzata.

Presbyterian Homes vice president of development John Mehrkens indicated earlier this year that he hopes to begin demolition of the site this summer.

  1. I work at OPH… there is no way they are looking for a new sight. Sad day in Wayzata.

  2. We'll just have to go a little farther to the Eden Prairie or Maple Grove locations – same great food – actually better in some respects. not to mention a lot better decor than the worn out Wayzata one.

  3. The Maple Grove OPH is MUCH MUCH better! The Maple Grove one has better owners, they care. Wayzata will NOT be missed. The Wayzata owners …. I don't have good things to say about them. Sorry that the staff will be out of a job.

  4. Interesting how people fight to save gianni's but not this place. And this restaurant is jammed packed every morning. Another hole in the structure of a dying community.

  5. Wayzata OPH WILL be missed, but great food like this IS worth the drive. 3 other OPH's -Eden Prairie, Maple Grove and Edina. I have been to all and they each have their own distinct decor and charm and great service too. My personal favorite – the huevos rancheros at the EP OPH. Or is it the huge omelet with goat cheese, spinach and mushrooms. Or it it that HUGE apple pancake that takes up the whole plate! Or……..OK I love it all!!!
