Nine students from Wayzata Public Schools were chosen to perform in the Minnesota Band Directors Association Honor Bands on April 10 at Farmington High School.

The nine students are:
Emily Abe – Wayzata High School, oboe in 9-10 honor band
Jennifer Cao – Wayzata High School, bari saxophone in 9-10 honor band
Sean Francis – Wayzata High School, tenor saxophone in 9-10 honor band
Rachel Gessner – West Middle School, oboe in 6-8 honor band
Annika Isbell – West Middle School, flute in 6-8 honor band
Trevor Kam – Wayzata High School, percussion in 9-10 honor band
Erin Louwagie – Wayzata High School, French horn in 9-10 honor band
Ben Mathers – Wayzata High School, baritone in 9-10 honor band
Katie Weiland – West Middle School, trombone in 6-8 honor band

Students auditioned by recording a CD (consisting of major scales, chromatic scales, and two etudes) which was judged by a committee in December.  More than 300 students in the state auditioned for the 6-8 Honor Band and only 79 students were chosen.

Dr. Alicia Neal was the guest conductor for the 6-8 Honor Band and Jerry Luckhardt conducted the 9-10 Honor Band. Both conductors serve as band conductors and teachers of conducting at the University of Minnesota.
