WHS teacher named winner of ‘My Favorite Teacher Contest’

Amanda Leddy, a sixth grade teacher at Wayzata Public Schools Central Middle School, was named the local winner of the Barnes and Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest.

Leddy was chosen from several entries at the Barnes and Noble Minnetonka store and was nominated by student Rachel Wyffels.

Students were invited to nominate their teacher by writing essays, poems or thank you letters that share how their teacher has influenced their life and why they appreciate and admire their teacher. Entries were judged on the compelling nature of the teacher’s qualities, the sincerity of the student’s appreciation and the quality of expression and writing.

Leddy will be recognized at an event at the Minnetonka Barnes and Noble on Saturday, April 16 at 10 a.m. where she will receive a set of 10 Sterling Children’s Classics books for her personal or classroom library. Wyffels, who wrote the winning essay, will receive a certificate of recognition and will be honored at the Minnetonka store during a short ceremony.

Leddy is now entered into the regional competition where six winners will be chosen.
