Presbyterian Homes is making strides in the development of the new Wayzata Bay Center by actively conducting geothermal testing, a sustainable energy initiative aimed at efficiently heating and cooling the center once completed in 2010.
Geothermal testing, involves the installation of geothermal tubing approximately 120 feet below ground.
The tubing is then filled with grout, and monitors are attached to measure the heat exchange occurring in the ground.
This meticulous process is part of the preparatory measures to harness geothermal energy for the future operations of the Wayzata Bay Center.
The incorporation of geothermal energy is expected to slash the energy requirements for heating and cooling the new Bay Center by an impressive 50 percent.
This marks a significant stride toward sustainability and reduced environmental impact.
The testing phase is projected to span four to six weeks, during which data will be collected and thoroughly evaluated by engineers and contractors.
Ed Breismeister expressed, “Once we have the data and it is evaluated by our engineers and contractors, we will know if the Bay Center will enjoy the efficiency of geothermal energy.”
