In preparation for the new Wayzata Bay Center, GBT Inc. is conducting geothermal testing to prepare to use geothermal energy to heat and cool the center once it is built in 2010.

Geothermal testing involves installing geothermal tubing about 120 feet down, filling the tube with grout and attaching monitors to measure the heat exchange in the ground, according to Ed Breismeister.
According to the Wayzata Bay Center Web site, the use of geothermal energy will reduce the amount of energy required to heat and cool the new Bay Center by 50 percent.
According to Breismeister, the test period will take about four to six weeks.
“Once we have the data and it is evaluated by our engineers and contractors, we will know if the Bay Center will enjoy the efficiency of geothermal energy,” Breismeister said.
