In anticipation of an anticipated budget shortfall for the City of Wayzata in 2010, community member Greg Rye (pictured) has suggested the formation of a “Sustainable Budget Taskforce.” Comprising three to five former Wayzata council members and a budget consultant, the task force aims to address fiscal challenges.
Rye’s proposal advocates for workshops and meetings where City staff and the Sustainable Budget Taskforce would present crucial budgetary issues and cost-saving ideas to the City Council.
Rye, who initially attended a budget meeting as a concerned citizen, was encouraged by the council to actively participate in the process. Subsequently, he formulated his recommendation.
Wayzata Mayor Ken Willcox expressed support for Rye’s initiative, stating that the City had already been contemplating strategies to navigate the potential budget shortfall. Willcox emphasized the value of gathering financial expertise to address budgetary concerns for the benefit of the community.
Regarding the simultaneous development of a budget task force and an affordable housing task force, Willcox noted that the City had been planning the latter. He remarked, “Great minds think alike,” in reference to Rye’s proposal, indicating the City’s intent to further explore and implement Rye’s ideas.
