Wayzata High School senior Emily Staples has been awarded the 2009 Athena Award. Staples competed for both the varsity gymnastics and track and field teams during her career at Wayzata.
This winter, Staples qualified to compete in the individual all-around competition at the state gymnastics meet. Last spring, Staples placed third in the 100 meter hurdles and 15th in the high jump at the state track and field meet.
