Three teams from Wayzata Public Schools will be competing in the Global Finals for Destination ImagiNation at the University of Tennessee on May 19-23.
The three teams advanced from a group of seven Wayzata Public Schools teams that competed at the regional competition on April 18. The three teams competing at the Global Finals are:
- The ZoDIacs from Gleason Lake Elementary – Team members include Colleen Donlin, Sabrina Southwick, Daniel Bye, Heather Mostrom, J.J. Heflin, Annie Wang and Nick Ashwill; Team managers are Becky Heflin and Kathy Donlin. The team solved the problem of ViDIo Lit Hit and earned first place and the Renaissance Award which recognizes those who demonstrate extraordinary amounts of effort and preparation in their solutions or outstanding skill in engineering, design or performance.
- The D.I. namites from Oakwood Elementary – Team members include Simran Chugani, Kyle Eckman, Frank Fetrow, Hannah Hagen, Isaac Polum, Madeline Tapper and Lucas Waskosky; Team Manager Holly Tapper. The team solved the problem of A New Angle and earned first place.
- Four Aces from Wayzata High School – Team members include Taylor Daily, Kate Guidera, Drew Heiring and Megan Kinneberg; Team manager is Russell Kinneberg. The team solved the problem Private DI and earned second place.
There were seven regional DI tournaments in Minnesota this year and more than 500 teams participated. Minnesota is one of the largest affiliates in the world and can send first and second place teams from the State Tournament.
