The average ACT score of Wayzata Public Schools students continues to be above state and national composite averages.In 2008, 649 students took the ACT exam and earned an average composite score of 25.01 on the test. The state average in 2008 was 22.6 and the national average was 21.1. In the area of English, Wayzata Public Schools students earned an average score of 24.96 compared to 21.9 for the state average; in the area of mathematics, the WPS score was 24.96 compared to 22.6 for the state average; in reading, the WPS score was 25.97 compared to the state average of 23; and in science the WPS score was 24.74 compared to the state average of 22.6.
In 2007, 650 Wayzata Public Schools students took the ACT exam and earned an average composite score of 25 compared to the state average of 22.5.
According to the local results, 91 percent of WPS students are determined to be ready for college English composition, 72 percent are ready for college algebra, 78 percent are ready for college social science, 57 percent are ready for college biology and 50 percent are meeting the standards in all four areas, compared with 32 percent at the state level. These percentages are based on the ACT established benchmark scores for designated college courses, which is the minimum score needed on an ACT subject area test to indicate a 50 percent chance of obtaining a B or higher in the corresponding college course. For English composition, the benchmark is 18, for algebra it is 22, for social science it is 21 and for biology it is 24.
