Ice Out Declared on Lake Minnetonka Signals Start of Boating Season

WAYZATA, Minn. —The Hennepin County Sheriff, in collaboration with the Freshwater Society, officially declared the Ice Out for Lake Minnetonka on April 23, 2008. The recent surge in temperatures, reaching towards 80 degrees, played a decisive role in melting away the remaining ice clinging to the surface of the lake.

With the declaration of Ice Out, residents and boating enthusiasts are encouraged to prepare for the upcoming summer season on Lake Minnetonka. It’s time to retrieve boats from storage, dust off life jackets, hoist the sails, and gear up for another fantastic summer of boating activities.

As the ice gives way to open waters, the community eagerly anticipates the return of leisurely boat rides, water sports, and the vibrant energy that Lake Minnetonka brings during the warmer months. Stay tuned for more updates and announcements as the summer boating season kicks into full swing.
