Beginning in the fall of 2023, the Budnick/Williams Scholarship Fund is set to launch an exciting new concert series in Wayzata, promising to enrich the local cultural scene. Established in 2001 as a part of the Greater Wayzata Community Foundation, the fund, named in honor of Woody Budnick and Chip Williams, has been a steadfast supporter of Wayzata High band students, providing over $30,000 in valuable college scholarships.
Woody Budnick, a dedicated educator who served the Wayzata School District for more than 30 years until his passing in 1998, left an indelible mark on the community through his love of music. Although he may be gone, his spirit lives on through the scholarship fund that bears his name. Chip Williams, another stalwart of the Wayzata Schools band program, contributed 33 years of service before his retirement in 2010, creating a lasting impact that echoes Budnick’s dedication.
The newly announced concert series is a testament to the enduring commitment of these educators to the world of music and education in Wayzata. The fund’s legacy continues to thrive, supporting the next generation of musicians. The scholarship, awarded annually to a deserving Wayzata High senior, serves as a symbol of recognition for outstanding achievement and dedication to the art of music.
The community eagerly anticipates the inaugural concert series, which promises to not only showcase exceptional musical talent but also celebrate the rich legacy of Budnick and Williams. As the series unfolds, it will undoubtedly become an integral part of Wayzata’s cultural tapestry, providing residents with an opportunity to connect with the enduring spirit of these influential educators. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting addition to Wayzata’s cultural calendar.
