“The Wayzata boys’ hockey team skated to its first Turkey Trot tournament championship since 2015 Saturday, beating Maple Grove 5-1. The four-team tournament, which also included Edina and Moorhead is sponsored by CCX Media and hosted by Wayzata. Jibber Kuhl and Jake Mattson each scored two goals in the title game and three in the tourney to lead the Trojans. Goalie Will Ingemann saved 47 shots in the tournament and posted a .940 save percentage. Lucas Busch scored the lone Maple Grove goal in the title game. Wayzata had defeated Moorhead 3-2 in the semifinals Friday while Maple Grove blanked Edina 2-0 in its semifinal game. Wayzata plays at Duluth East in its next game on Saturday. “The coaches, players and parents of Wayzata Youth Hockey Association and the Wayzata Bantam AA hockey team extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family of the Eastview player who passed away late yesterday during a game against Wayzata. Our Association community is heartbroken and devastated but this pales in comparison to the loss we know the family, coaches and players of Eastview must be feeling. We extend our prayers to the family and ask that whole Minnesota hockey community remember and celebrate this young man’s life.”

It was supposed to be a dream come true and instead it was slipping into a nightmare for the young Minnesota high schooler.
Out for his Saturday-morning run in a Twin Cities suburb, Tony Cameranesi returned home to find out he had been selected 130th overall by the Maple Leafs and was about to make the mad dash to the Xcel Energy Center to meet his new employers.
“I had to change really quickly and for some reason, I couldn’t find my dress pants,” Cameranesi said before speeding to the rink in the 25 or so minutes it takes from his home. “It took a little longer than usual.”

The Star Tribune is reporting that Wayzata Hockey Coach Carl Davis is stepping down. Here is an excerpt from the story, as well as a link to the article:
“Carl Davis wanted his players to hear the news first.
So he called a 7 a.m. meeting on Friday, April 22, and told them they would have a new coach next season.
Davis, Wayzata’s boys hockey coach for the past 16 seasons, made his resignation official on Friday after contemplating the decision for most of the spring.
“When I try to talk people out of it, usually it’s a mistake,” Wayzata activities director Jaime Sherwood said. “He just thought the timing was right. I’ve got to honor that, though I’m saddened by it.””
