City of Wayzata: New Garden Chairs Named

From the December 2010 Portal:

The blush is definitely off the roses in the city gardens for this year, but the volunteer committee and City staff are already gearing up for the gardening season in 2011. Two avid gardeners, Jan Himan, a former gardening crew chief, and Cathy Iverson have stepped into the leadership roles. Last year’s crew chiefs are encouraged to participate in the planning as well as the implementation of the upcoming garden projects. Enthusiasm
was high last year but the new chairs are expected to ramp it up even more in 2011. You can sign up early for the City Planting Day or the Adopt-a-Garden Project by contacting Cathy Iverson at marketoffleas@hotmail.com or Lynn McCarthy at 952-473-1690.

Wayzata Post Office off the Market, for the time being

The City of Wayzata is reporting in it’s most current edtion of the Portal that the Wayzata Post Office is off the market for the time being. Here is a copy of the notice:

“The word from the U.S. Postal Service is that the sale of the Wayzata Post Office building is off the market, at least for the time being! Thank you to all who took the time to sign the petition to “Save Our Post Office” and send letters and cards to our legislators in Washington. The 1200 signatures from Wayzata residents were forwarded to our legislators, asset managers and officers of the Postal Service as concrete evidence that the people in Wayzata care very deeply about their historic post office.”

City of Wayzata: Leaf Pick-up scheduled for Monday, November 8 2010

Leave It Curbside

On Monday, November 8, Randy’s Sanitation will conduct their fall leaf pickup. Leaves must be bagged and placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. Effective January 1, 2010, a State of Minnesota law went into effect that requires residents to bag their yard waste in compostable bags only. Bags must meet ASTM D6400 standards. For more information contact Randy’s Sanitation at 763-972-3335.

Randy’s Sanitation would like to remind residential customers that garbage, recycling and organics pickups for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year will be on schedule. Please have your items out on Monday by 7:00 a.m. to ensure pick up. Randy’s holiday schedule can be found on their website at www.randyssanitation.com, click on “News and Updates.”

Wayzata residents, keep an eye out for the Wayzata Portal in your water bill in which the City of Wayzata wants to make sure you know that the Official Web site of the City of Wayzata is http://www.wayzata.org/ and not Wayzata.com!

City of Wayzata drinking water report released

A drinking water report for the City of Wayzata was published in the June issue of The Portal newsletter. The study reports the monitoring of drinking water from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2008.

According to the study, “no contaminants were detected at levels that violated any current federal drinking water standards.”

The source water supplies for the City are three groundwater wells: One well draws from the Quaternary Buried Artesian aquifer and two draw from the Prairie du Chien-Jordan aquifer. After being pumped from the ground, fluoride is added to the water to help promote healthy teeth. From there, the water is either sent straight to customers’ taps or stored for later use.

CITY OF WAYZATA: Peddlers, Solicitors & Transient Merchants Permitting Info

From The Portal, The City of Wayzata’s Monthly Newsletter:

Each season the City receives a handful of inquiries from individuals or groups wishing to go door-to-door to distribute information or seek donations for a non-profit organization. They are not required to have a license. Th e City encourages these groups to register with the City and advises the Wayzata Police Department when they will be canvassing in the area.

Individuals or groups going door-to-door to sell goods or services for immediate or future delivery are required to have a City license. Once they have applied for the City license, had a background check done by our Police Department and have gotten approval by the City Council, they will be issued a picture ID card embossed with the City Seal. They must carry this ID card when going door-to-door.

Residents are encouraged to place a “No Solicitor’s” placard in a window or on the door if they wish to be bypassed by solicitors. Th e placard must meet these standards: 1. At least four inches long. 2. At least four inches wide. 3. With print of at least 48 point in size. 4. Stating “No Peddlers, Solicitors or Transient Merchants,” “Peddlers, Solicitors, and Transient Merchants Prohibited,” or other comparable statement. We have a copy of one attached you can cut out and use.

CITY OF WAYZATA: Hydrant and Watermain Flushing to Happen in April

From the Portal, the official flyer of the City of Wayzata:

The Water Department will be flushing water mains and fire hydrants during the month of April. Your water may become discolored during the flushing process. Be advised to not wash clothes when they are fl ushing near your home. If your water becomes discolored, wait until they are done fl ushing in your immediate vicinity and then let your faucet run until the water becomes clean again. The flushing schedule will be posted on our web site (http://www.wayzata.org/) and on cable television channel 8 WCTV shortly.
