Hi Dan,
Is there a park in the area, preferably on the water, which would be suitable for 47 tourists on a bus to stop for a picnic lunch in July? We will be coming from Noerenberg Gardens, heading east.
Thanks

Lake Minnetonka Picnic spot?
Hello JD,
Thank you for reaching out. If you’re considering a picnic for your group of 47 tourists in July, one option is the Wayzata Beach property at the intersection of Ferndale Road South and Grove Lane East. It’s a public area situated at 220 Grove Lane East. From what I remember, there might not be enough picnic tables for your group, but it’s worth checking. You can contact the City of Wayzata at 952-404-5300 to confirm the table availability and inquire about parking permits.
Another possibility in Wayzata is Klapprich Park, an 8-acre park located at 340 Park Street East. However, based on my recollection, there might be a shortage of picnic tables there as well.
If you’re open to exploring Minnetonka, Gro-Tonka Park at 17003 Prospect Place could be an option. It’s close to the lake and has a picnic shelter with seating for 32. Reservations are accepted, and parking is provided. For more details, you can reach out to the City of Minnetonka at 952-939-8390.
In Excelsior, the Commons area could be an ideal choice. They accept reservations, offer picnic facilities right on Lake Minnetonka, and can accommodate a group of your size. Feel free to contact them at 952-474-5233. Even though your group size is below the reservation threshold, it’s advisable to secure reservations to ensure availability on your preferred day. This option seems to be the most promising in the Lake Minnetonka area.
If you have any further inquiries, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly at your convenience.
Best regards,
Daniel Gustafson
