The Wayzata Trojans broke into the win column Friday night with a dominant 45–3 victory over Park of Cottage Grove, moving their record to 1–4 on the season.
Wayzata wasted no time establishing control. Jaxon Brown opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, followed quickly by a 10-yard burst from Zander Harrell to make it 14–0 in the first quarter. The Trojans kept the pressure on as Sam Booh powered in from three yards out, and a last-second field goal by Felix Miguel Balthazar sent them into halftime with a 24–0 lead.
The third quarter sealed the outcome. Brown electrified the visiting crowd with a 65-yard punt return touchdown, quarterback Thor Soukup connected with Peter Milkes on a 40-yard strike, and Luke Boutwell capped the onslaught with a 23-yard scoring run. Park managed only a late field goal to avoid the shutout.
With their first win in hand, Wayzata now turns its attention to one of the most anticipated games of the season: the Battle for the Bay Bell. The Trojans will host undefeated Minnetonka (5–0) on Friday, October 3. The Skippers are riding high after a 21–14 upset of Eden Prairie, their first victory over the Eagles in 20 years.

The matchup carries extra intrigue with the return of Matt Lombardi, Minnetonka’s defensive coordinator who helped guide Wayzata to state titles in 2005, 2008, and 2010. The Skippers also feature electric running back Caleb Francois, who has been torching defenses all fall.
Homecoming kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Wayzata High School Stadium.

The Wayzata Trojans came up just short Friday night, falling 15-14 to Saint Michael-Albertville after a missed two-point conversion in the final minute sealed their third straight loss to open the season.
The Knights struck first following a turnover on downs by Wayzata on its opening drive. STMA marched 82 yards in 10 plays, capping the possession with a two-yard touchdown run by senior running back Wyatt Mosher. The extra point made it 7-0 with 5:04 remaining in the first quarter.
Wayzata answered early in the second quarter with a drive of its own. Quarterback Thor Soukup engineered an eight-play, 66-yard series, finishing it off with a three-yard touchdown run. The Trojans opted for two and converted, taking an 8-7 lead at the 7:55 mark of the second.

But just before halftime, STMA capitalized on field position and swung the momentum back its way. After taking over deep in Wayzata territory, the Knights needed only five plays to cover 15 yards. Mosher again powered in, this time from the one-yard line, and the Knights converted their two-point try. That put Saint Michael-Albertville up 15-8 heading into the break.
Wayzata’s defense gave the Trojans multiple chances to stay in the game, coming up with three interceptions on the night. Senior defensive back Max Beninga snagged two, while Jaxon Brown added another takeaway, keeping the Knights from extending their lead in the second half.
Despite the turnovers, the Trojans struggled to finish drives until the final minute of the game. With time winding down in the fourth quarter, quarterback Thor Soukup connected with wide receiver John Evans on a long strike from midfield, pulling Wayzata within a single point at 15-14.
Head coach Lambert Brown elected to go for two and the win, putting the ball back in Soukup’s hands. But Saint Michael-Albertville defensive back Beckett Young leapt to deflect the pass attempt, preserving the Knights’ narrow victory.
The loss drops Wayzata Football to 0-3 on the season, while STMA improves to 2-1.
Looking ahead, Wayzata returns home to face Moorhead, who enter the matchup sitting at 2-1 on the season. The Spuds dropped their most recent game to Minnetonka by a 47-21 margin but come in with solid wins over Rogers and Woodbury.

The Wayzata Trojans struck first Friday night, but the momentum was short-lived as Edina’s balanced attack carried the Hornets to a 40–14 victory at Kuhlman Stadium.
Wayzata opened with promise, marching down the field and capping the drive with a touchdown to go up 7–0 early in the first quarter. Edina answered quickly. Quarterback Mason West connected with wideout Jabari Strader at the 4:47 mark to even the score, and just over a minute later running back Chase Bjorgaard powered in to give the Hornets a 14–7 lead.
From there, Edina controlled the game. West scored on a keeper midway through the second quarter, Bjorgaard added his second touchdown run with 2:24 before halftime, and West struck again in the final seconds of the half to make it 33–7.
By the end of the third quarter, the Hornets stretched the margin to 40–7. Wayzata found the end zone once more in the fourth, but it was too late to close the gap.
The Trojans, now 0–2, will look to regroup quickly as the season schedule tightens.
