“In a battle of two of the top boys swimming and diving teams in the state, Wayzata fell to Minnetonka at home by a score of 100-84. The Trojans 200-yard medley relay team consisting of Nathan Carr, Noah Landry, Max Carter, and JP Kirchner earned a first-place finish of 1:35.38. Jerry Lou also took first in the 200-yard IM, clocking a time of 1:57.71. In the 100-yard butterfly, Nathan Carr scored six points for the Trojans with a time of 49.91 seconds. On the diving board, Wayzata’s Thomas Gendreau placed second overall with a final score of 230.95.” via CCX Media.

The high school girls’ swimming and diving season concluded this Saturday with the culmination of championship meets in both Class A and AA. Maple Grove and Wayzata showcased multiple talented athletes who qualified for the finals.
Notable performances from these schools included Libby Bakker from Maple Grove securing 3rd place in the 100 Backstroke and 4th in the 200 IM, Lucy Troyak from Wayzata earning 6th place in both the 200 and 500 Freestyle, Kaya Flaherty of Maple Grove claiming 5th in the 100 Butterfly, and Ashley Mouyenga from Wayzata finishing 4th in the diving competition.
Additionally, Maple Grove’s Ellis Landry secured 6th place in diving, and their relay teams achieved commendable results with the 200 Medley Relay taking 3rd place and the 200 Free Relay securing 5th place. Wayzata’s overall team performance landed them in fourth place, while Maple Grove finished fifth.
In Class AA, Edina retained their championship title. In Class A, Breck clinched fourth place, with senior Piper Crosby winning the 100-yard backstroke and the Mustangs emerging victorious in the 200 Yard Medley Relay.

The Wayzata girls’ swimming and diving squad demonstrated remarkable team depth and secured victory in the Section 5AA meet on Saturday by clinching victories in five races. The team dominated with wins in the 200- and 400-yard relay events, as well as individual successes from Emily Alberts (200 freestyle), Geneva Fackler (100 free), and Lucy Troyak (500 free). Although Maple Grove’s Libby Bakker claimed victories in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke, the Crimson settled for a second-place finish behind Wayzata. Champlin Park claimed the third spot overall, with Olivia Knox of the Rebels triumphing in the 100-yard breaststroke. This marks the Trojans’ 17th consecutive section title.

The Wayzata swimming and diving team lost sixteen seniors from a team that finished third in state in Class AA last year, but the Trojans are working hard again this Fall to stay near the top.
Wayzata returns back a few state-contributors from last year in Geneva Fackler, Linnea Kallebo, Lucy Troyak, Emily Alberts, and Ashley Mouyenga. The Trojans host Eden Prairie in a dual meet Thursday in Plymouth.

Class A boys swimming power Breck/Blake beat Wayzata 69-33 Thursday at Breck School in Golden Valley. Henry Webb of Breck/Blake set a new pool record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:45.82. The Bearstangs are six-time defending state champions in class A.

Defending state girls’ swimming and diving champion Wayzata defeated Armstrong 98-80 in the first dual meet of the season for both teams. Madison Preiss of Wayzata won both the 100 backstroke and the 200 Individual Medley and broke the pool record in the 200 IM.

The Wayzata Swim and Dive team won the Section 5AA Meet with a total of 672 points. Mounds View came in second with 421 points while Armstrong finished in third place with 283 points. The Trojans will compete in the State Meet November 18-20 at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The 2009 Minnetonka Challenge will be held Saturday, July 18, and challenge swimmers to swim five miles from Excelsior Beach to Wayzata Bay.Mandatory check-in is from 5:30 to 6:20 a.m. at Excelsior Beach and is followed by a mandatory pre-race meeting at 6:30 a.m.
Fruit, muffins and drinks will be served at the finish line at Wayzata Beach and the award ceremony will wrap things up from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Participants must register for the swim and pay an entry fee of $25. Register for the Minnetonka Challenge online by July 14 to participate.
