“The Wayzata baseball team was able to beat Edina 11-1 in game one of the Section 6AAAA final, but couldn’t come out on top in the winner-take-all game two, falling 14-6. The Trojans were able to put together multi-run innings in the first game, highlighted by a bases clearing triple by Hunsley Cole. In game two, the Trojans took a 6-5 lead, but Edina outscored Wayzata 8-1 in the final three innings of the game. The Trojans finished their season with a 20-10 record.” via CCX Media.

Hunsley Cole’s three-run triple in the third inning sparked the Trojans and gave Wayzata the lead that they wouldn’t give up. Luke Boutwell also had a two-run single in the fifth inning. “Down by three runs on two separate occasions, the Wayzata baseball team clawed back and scored four unanswered runs, completing the comeback with a walk-off single by Adam Deselich in extra innings. Even with Blaine scoring in each of the first four innings, the Trojans were able to limit the Bengals to only one run in the second, third, and fourth innings. In the bottom of the fourth, a Kyle Boutwell solo home run sparked the Trojans. Wayzata didn’t allow a run the rest of the game and had timely hits down the stretch. Not only did Deselich have the walk-off in the eighth inning, the senior also tied the game up in the sixth with an RBI double. The Trojans did graduate some key players but they also return a good group from that Lake Conference and Section 6AAAA championship team. “The Wayzata baseball team kept its unbeaten record intact, rallying to beat St. Cloud 6-5 Thursday in the opening round of the State AAAA tournament. The Trojans took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on run-scoring hits by Kieran Leatherman and Tyler Gullickson. St. Cloud answered with a run in the third and three more in the fourth to briefly take the lead. Gullickson’s second RBI of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning tied the game. James Hansen’s two-run single in the fifth inning put Wayzata ahead for good. Riley Leatherman earned the win on the mound for the Trojans with Brady Lash getting the save. Wayzata (25-0) plays Mounds View (19-8) in the semifinals Friday afternoon. The state championship games in all four classes are scheduled for Monday at Target Field.”
