In honor of Dr. Tom Koch’s retirement at the close of the school year, a memory book full of short Birchview stories past and present students is being created.

Whether Dr. Koch sang a song, taught an important lesson or maybe gave someone a second chance, we hope to capture many moments from his Birchview career that will help him feel touched and see the magnitude of what he has done for the Birchview community. If you have a short story, memory, quote, etc. that you would like inserted into this memory book, please email it to robynruark@gmail.com by May 13. The book will be presented to him at an open house in his honor scheduled for Tuesday, May 24th, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Birchview gym. All past and present Birchview families and staff are welcome.

Jason Wenschlag is the finalist for the principal position at Birchview Elementary School.

Wayzata Public Schools Superintendent Chace Anderson will recommend Wenschlag to the school board at its May 9 regular board meeting.

Wenschlag is currently the principal at Sheridan Hills Elementary School in Richfield, Minnesota. He received his bachelor of science degree from North Dakota State University, his master’s degree from the University of Minnesota and his education specialist degree from St. Thomas University.

“We are pleased to recommend Jason to the board as the next principal of Birchview Elementary School and are excited about his potential to continue the school’s strong tradition of excellence,” said Anderson.

From Wayzata Public Schools:

An Environmental Quality Fair is planned at Birchview Elementary School on Thursday, March 12 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The event is a partnership effort between the city of Plymouth and Birchview Elementary and the theme for this year’s fair is “Discover the Power of One.” Participants will have an opportunity to stroll across a giant map of Minnesota biomes; explore the underwater world of creatures from Minnesota streams; plant a native perennial wildflower to take home and shake hands with Smokey the Bear, Woodsy Owl and the Green Guardian.

Birchview and Plymouth city staff collaborated together to bring this event to the school. Students from many grade levels also participated with exhibits of their own. The school choir will preview songs from its spring program, “My Planet! Your Planet!”
