From CCX Media: “The two-time defending state champion Wayzata volleyball team opened its 2022 season Thursday with a three-set sweep of Minnetonka, extending the Trojans’ winning streak to 55 matches. The Trojans fell behind 10-6 in the first set but outscored the Skippers 19-8 to close out the set and then won sets 2 and 3 by scores of 25-11 and 25-15. Wayzata won Class AAAA last season, finishing the year with a 34-0 record. Their next match is Monday against Rogers, a team they beat in the state tournament a year ago.”

“The Wayzata volleyball team is coming off a state championship and unbeaten season.
But despite the loss of five key seniors, the Trojans are loaded with talent again this fall. Twins Olivia and Stella Swenson have both verbally committed to the University of Minnesota, senior libero Sophia Johnson is a Cal commit and Avery Jesewitz is the Trojans’ returning left-side hitter and is also a Division 1 recruit.
The team also expects big contributions from girls who didn’t see a lot of varsity playing time a year ago. Wayzata opens the season at home August 25th against Minnetonka.”

Wayzata High School Volleyball finished the abbreviated season 13-0 by defeating Maple Grove in 3 sets: 25-20, 25-23, 25-20. The Trojans also finished the season ranked #1 by the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association.
The 2020 Wayzata Volleball team was undefeated in 13 contests and ranked #1 by the Coaches Poll. -
The Wayzata state champion football and volleyball teams will have to wait until spring to defend their titles.
The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) announced football and volleyball are moving to next spring.
The board states spring football will have no scrimmages, a shorter season, and fewer games. The postseason plan still has not been determined.
The MSHSL’s board of directors decided to move forward with other fall activities including girls tennis, cross country, soccer and girls swimming and diving.
“Our Board of Directors recognizes the importance of the League’s activities in supporting the mental and physical well-being of our students and worked very hard to provide some level of participation in all activities,” said MSHSL Executive Director Erich Martens. “In addition, they recognize their responsibility in focusing on the health and safety of all who participate in or support these opportunities.”

At Monday’s Wayzata School Board Meeting, the state champion Wayzata High School Volleyball and Football teams will be honored.
The football team defeated Champlin Park in the 6A state championship game.
Wayzata’s volleyball team won the 3A state championship by beating Eagan.
The board is also putting on a farewell party for outgoing board member Erik Brown.
The school board meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Wayzata City Hall.

Your Wayzata Volleyball Trojans defeated the Hopkins Royals on Tuesday evening in 3 straight sets 28-26, 25-20, 25-17. The Wayzata Trojans will face the Eden Prairie Eagles on Saturday Nov. 1 at 3pm at Benilde St. Margaret.

Boys Cross Country: The boys ran to 5th place at the St.Olaf college showcase on September 16th. The most recent match, was the 6th Heartland Classic Varsity Boys Event. Senior Josh Thorson wasn’t playing around and stormed his way to place 1st at the meet. Overall, the team tied for second with Edina.Girls Cross Country: The girls that run for the Wayzata Cross Country team know how to get things done. The girls both varsity and JV placed first at the Marshfield invitational. At the Iowa State University meet, Freshmen Anna French set a new school record, with a time of 14:48.Boys Soccer: The boys haven’t been as lucky as they have been in the past. The team is 0-1 with a devastating loss to Edina. Their next opportunity is against Eden Prairie on September 22nd at 7 p.m. The game will take place at the Wayzata High School.Girls Soccer: Just like the boys, the girls will take on Eden Prairie on September 22nd at WHS, but their game will set stage at 5 p.m. They also play on September 24th at 11 a.m. vs. BuffaloVolleyball: The Wayzata High School Volleyball team is something to take pride in. Ranked 22nd, and a record of 8-3-0 the girls are a strong contender for the title. The girls took on Edina on September 15th, and cleared them out with a win of 3-0. “For the second straight season, the Wayzata volleyball team found itself in the heartbreaking position of being on the cusp of capturing a state championship, but falling just short to a team with superior talent.
Last year it was Shakopee and its University of Minnesota recruit Ashley Wittman. This year it was Lakeville North and its University of Minnesota recruit Taylr McNeil.
McNeil – who is only a freshman, but has verbally committed to the U of M – recorded 27 kills on 44 swings for a gaudy .568 hitting percentage.”
