The Wayzata softball team will look to take some momentum into the section playoffs with a win in their regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon against Hopkins.
The Trojans and Royals have split a pair of games so far this season with the Trojans winning 2-1 on April 20 and the Royals winning 5-4 on May 1.
The Royals will be playing for at least a share of the Classic Lake Conference championship as they are currently tied atop the standings with Minnetonka at 8-3. The Trojans sit two games behind the leaders at 6-5.
The Trojans went 2-1 last weekend at the Benilde-St. Margaret’s tournament with wins over Prior Lake and Visitation and a loss to Lakeville North.
Senior pitcher Anna Twinem pitched her sixth and seventh shutouts of the season in the tournament as the Trojans blanked Prior Lake 3-0 and followed it up with a 1-0 shutout over Visitation.
The Trojans will begin postseason play on May 18 in section 6AAA. The section has 12 teams including Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Edina, Holy Angels, Hopkins, Minneapolis South, Minneapolis Southwest, Park Center, Richfield, Robbinsdale Armstrong, Robbinsdale Cooper, and St. Louis Park.
