    Hi Leah,

Thanks for the email. There is not a Sushi Bar that I am aware of in Wayzata. However, there are two Sushi Restaurants that are close. One is the Oragami West located at 12401 Wayzata Blvd, Minnetonka, MN 55305. According to reviews, it gets 3.5 out of 5 stars. 952-746-3393‎ or http://www.origamirestaurant.com/. • Unmentionables in Wayzata

    April 16th, 2008

I stumbled onto a blog reviewing shops on Grand Avenue, and they mentioned a lingerie store in Wayzata. It sounds like there is a new shop going in at 840 East Lake Street. Elisha seemed to remember that it is next to the Wayzata Marquee. A couple of weeks ago, it seemed to be still getting ready to open. The sign wasn’t finished, and they seemed to be assembling the store.

According to their website, the offer Bra Fitting Services, First Bra Fittings, Bridal Fitting Service, Honeymoon Lingerie & Swimwear, and Maternity/Nursing Bra Fitting. Nothing like a Lingerie Boutique on Lake Street to quicken the pulse!

  • Drove Past the Alaska Eatery Today

    April 15th, 2008

I drove past the Alaska Eatery today, the sister restaurant to the Wayzata Eatery owned and operated by Tahar. According to City Search, it gets 4.5 stars out of 5–a pretty impressive mark. It is located in the old Shelly’s Woodroast location on 394 / Wayzata Boulevard in St. Louis Park. Apparently there is impressive Alaskan decor, the service is better than average, and the food is quite good. The pros listed on the City Search site are: food, service, better than any seafood options in the service, and lively service. Cons include: Parking is in the back, not on the level of top seafood places in Minnesota, you see the back of the building from the street. Elisha and I are looking forward to trying this new place with a Wayzata connection!
  • Cargill Posts Another Impressive Quarter

    April 14th, 2008

Is it just me or does Cargill of Wayzata report another record breaking quarter every quarter? It is an impressive organization, as it seems a lot of businesses and people out there are just trying to hang on during this so called rough economic time. When you read the press releases it sounds like a broken record. “Cargill increased profitability by 86% for the quarter ending…” That means Cargill is doing 86% better than it did in the last period.

Thing is, they seem to do that for every measured period recently. If that holds true for consecutive quarters that means Cargill is doing over twice as good as it did the year before, and year over year. The productivity and profitability are both impressive and staggering when considered over longer periods of time. According to a Star Tribune article dated April 15, 2008, Cargill made $471,611 an hour, and 11.3 million per day. A substantial amount of the profit is from record lows for commodities and record high demand for milk, eggs, meat, and grain.

Is anyone aware of a time when Cargill was on hard times? If so, email me at wayzata at gmail.com as the Wayzata community would love some insider info.

  • When Will the Ice Go Out on Wayzata Bay in 2008?

    April 14th, 2008

The next couple of days should put a real dent in the ice that is on Wayzata Bay. Gray’s Bay is starting to get quite of bit of water around the edges as you drive over the Gray’s Bay Bridge. The bridge under Libb’s Lake has been liquid for weeks, and the Wayzata Boat Works docks never really do freeze. Most of the ice has a real grey tone to it, and in speaking Greg, the guy who rents me my boat slip, the ice actually gets very porous, fills with water, and then sinks. We will keep you posted as to the status of the ice and let you know as soon as it goes out. Stay tuned to Wayzata.com.
  • How Long to Commute From Wayzata to St. Paul?

    April 14th, 2008

    Hi Dan,

Could you give me a ballpark estimate of commute times between Wayzata and St. Paul, during rush hour and not-during-rush-hour? Many thanks.

    JG

    Hi JG,

Thanks for asking that question. It should take about an hour and 15 minutes for you to commute on a normal day during rush hour. Figure another 45 minutes or so for a day with rain or snow. Non-rush hour with clear weather should take just under half an hour. Hope this helps.

  • Wayzata Blockbuster Armed Robber Remains at Large

    April 14th, 2008

The Sun Sailor is reporting that the armed robber who hit the Blockbuster in Wayzata on March 30th is still at large. The original police report indicated that the suspect was a black male with light skin, 25-30 years old, 6 feet tall, and wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, a knit hat and blue jeans.

The article also indicates that the last armed robbery in Wayzata was in 2002 at the Wayzata Amoco.

Wayzata is a safe as they come in the metro area in terms of crime. According to City Data, since 2001 there have been no registered sex offenders living in Wayzata, no murders, 2 rapes, 4 robberies, and 9 assaults. Cars are stolen with some frequency, but that is to be expected as a lot of the cars belonging to Wayzatians are high end luxury imports. There is recently a story about a Wayzata High School student who has been prostituting herself, and was involved as an accomplice to an attempted murder.

What is interesting about armed robbery is that it takes as much or more effort to rob a Blockbuster for $350.00 as it does to flip burgers for the clown for a week. It must be desperation, and thank goodness no one was hurt in this instance.

Stay tuned to Wayzata.com for all the developments.
