  • Ask Dan! – Who responds for police and fire protection in Woodland?

    August 25th, 2008

    Hi Dan,

I need to write some insurance for a person who lives in WOODLAND, I think this is near Wayzata. I need to know who responds….for burglar/fire protection….I was looking at your website… how can I find this out, who to call?

    Jane Johnson

    Hi Jane,

According to the website for the City of Woodland, the Deephaven Police Department provides service and protection to Woodland. Additionally, the Wayzata Fire Department has been providing fire protection to Woodland for over 44 years. You can call:

Wayzata Fire Chief, Kevin Klapprich – (952) 404-5337
Woodland City Clerk, Shelley Souers – (952) 474-4755
    Deephaven/Woodland Police Chief, Virgil Gustafson – (952) 474-7555
for more information. Hope this answers your question. Thanks for tuning in for another episode of Ask Dan!

    Kind regards,

    Dan

  • Real Estate: Wayzata among the cities with the lowest rate of foreclures

    August 15th, 2008

The Pioneer Press is reporting that Wayzata is one of the cities in the metro with the lowest share of lender-mediated homes for sale at 4.8%. Other cities which have a small ratio include: Mendota Heights/Lilydale, 7.9 percent; Arden Hills/Shoreview, 9 percent; Edina, 5.3 percent; and North Oaks, 3.4 percent.

  • Two lanes of traffic open in both Directions on Highway 12

    August 13th, 2008

AM 830 WCCO is reporting that there are two lanes of traffic open in each direction on Highway 12 in Wayzata–although AM 1130 KFAN is still reporting slowdowns. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the bottleneck of construction that has plagued the area all summer long.

  • Wayzata Alumni Mike Pederson coaches US Women’s Fencing in Beijing

    August 13th, 2008

Beijing – Wayzata High School Alumni Mike Pederson has been involved with fencing ever since his days of High School right here in Wayzata. These days he is involved with coaching epee for the US Women’s Olympic Fencing Team.

Jim Souhan of the Star Tribune wrote a great article about Mike which is located here: A “fluke” encounter at Wayzata High School led a former “Fencing Kid” to Big Ten titles and a trip to Beijing as a coach.

  • Crimer Alert – Theft from Vehicles

    August 12th, 2008

The Wayzata Police Department has taken several theft from vehicle reports in the past two weeks. Areas targeted have been the Wayzata Yacht Club, Meridian Manor, and Woodhill Country Club. These have occurred during daytime hours. Windows have frequently been broken in when the suspects see valuables in plain view in the passenger compartments.

We are working on potential suspects in this case. They do not appear to be from the area. It appears there are as many as three groups who are active and working the entire metro area. Shortly after many of the thefts, credit cards are used at gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores and mass merchants. We are seeing them used in areas such as Golden Valley, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Blaine, Coon Rapids, etc. This is a metro-wide issue. One of these groups is notorious for Sunday morning thefts to include church parking lots. Suspects in these groups are both white and black and male and female.

We can protect ourselves by not leaving anything of value in plain view inside our vehicles. Please report any suspicious activity to the Wayzata Police Department immediately by dialing 911. You may reference this alert to the police dispatcher. Feel free to forward this alert to anyone you think may benefit from it.

    Chief Mike Risvold
